I'm pretty sure nothing is going on. I wouldn't be expecting any imminent announcement. Much ado about nothing.

You know, it's funny because the word "imminent" was unusually popular in the original TNT Dallas discussion. And here we are, talking about imminent matters again.

    (or was it eminent?)

I think that if they are looking at a complete reboot they have to be original about the storylines. Lots of posts on twitter and FB asking people if they'd accept a new series with a new cast, based on old storylines.

That's not a reboot, it's a recycle. Are we saying that there are no new stories or plots they can think of for the show?

If that's that case then just leave it alone, don't touch it, walk slowly backwards and then run away....we really don't need - or deserve that.

I don't see any value in doing that either. What I'd be interested in seeing is a show that runs from the mid 60s to 1978. They could use flashbacks to earlier times as well. The interesting story to be told is: "What led up to everything we saw"? How did Jock build Ewing Oil from the ground up into as big of a business as he did? How did Jock and Miss Ellie treat their sons in their formative years? What were the other influences that made JR and Bobby and Ray into the men they became? Was JR born the way he was or did certain things make him become that way? What was Bobby like in his football days and then his days as a road man for Ewing Oil, his "playboy days"? What were Pam and Cliff like in their formative years? What made Pam and Cliff turn into who they became? What was life like for the Ewing and Barnes families back in the 40s, 50s, 60s and early to mid 70s?

We've already got all the stories we need from the time period of the late 70s and 80s. The intriguing thing is what we didn't see. Seeing Jock and Miss Ellie in the prime of their lives, seeing their sons as teenagers and young adults. Those are the things we haven't seen yet and stories set in that time are the intriguing thing that remains left to be told about the Ewing-Barnes saga.

nuDYNASTY did that, and it's been the bottom-rated show for 3 years, only lasting this long because of a Netflix deal.

But then the executive urge to turn all projects into teenagers-by-the-pool is just always overwhelming.

Reboot tv series don't exist. It's just a popular (and annoying) new name for "remake" - which TNT Dallas wasn't.
If they were going to reboot Dallas we'd have to go back to the year 1978.

So much fodder for great storytelling there - not to mention the opportunity to show the Gary-Val-Lucy-JR series of events as they happened!

TNT was a continuation with elements of a reboot. They changed what happened originally in some aspects, and that wasn't received well by the public.

For Dallas, a reboot would be unlikely because how do you make a reboot that's an improvement on the original? I don't see anyone improving on the original. I don't see anyone even matching the original. A reboot would be appropriate for a series that was based on a great concept but was poorly executed.

Yes to a reboot with Lucy as the focus and Tori Spelling as Sue Ellen!

This would be someone I'd find preferable to Tori Spelling as Sue Ellen:

I think Lucy should be changed to J.R.'s daughter from his ex-wife Val, who he ran out of Texas for sleeping with his brother Gary. Lucy views Sue Ellen as the wicked stepmother.

Maybe that person that was here before the site crashed claiming to be doing market research sessions for a TNT book continuation is making good on their grandstanding

It should be another continuation like the 2012 show -- just better.

Well if this don’t tear the rag off the bush.... I’d have staked my mortgage on the certainty that I’d have long since expired before there’d ever be any new Dallas product on the screen.

of course in reality the reason for a reboot is probably more like "shit, we have to make our number for the year! What do we own the rights to that was once popular that we could squeeze some more money out of for cheaper than creating something from scratch?"
