There were other gay actors on DALLAS. Dack was probably ostracized because of the position he was being groomed for, and Larry's assertion that he "spray-painted his jeans on."

Timothy Patrick Murphy, who played Mickey Trotter, was gay. He was a success on Dallas, yet was released pretty early after just 1 year on Dallas. I doubt Charlene Tilton had chemistry as good with any of Lucy's other men as she did with TPM.

Reportedly, he was well liked. I think Mickey's death was a plot thing -- the battle over Jock's will needed a body count. Same for Rebecca Wentworth.

Maybe Rambo didn't work for me because of the story lines in the dream season. They were so bad that no one looked good.

I don't know exactly what was going on behind the scenes then, but I do recall that Dack Rambo once said in an article that he would have liked to participate in scenes that were a lot more steamy.

Wasn't it "Another World" he left? Odd because I would assume that the ratio would be high for gay and lesbian performers in that genre.

A real shame the writers killed off Mickey and Rebecca. I enjoyed Rebecca's introduction more so. Why? Around this time the Barnes/Wentworth family was being fattened out and it appeared a secondary powerful family to rival the Ewing family was emerging. I also wished there had been a love triangle develop between Miss Ellie, Clayton and Rebecca like others have suggested.

Rebecca was def killed off way too soon. A shame that Jack and Jamie's parents were already dead when they appeared. It would have been great to have seen a poor offshoot of the Ewing family, as well as some Southworth children by Garrison. Not meant to happen, though.

But the battle over Ewing Oil needed victims.

Excellent points, also I don't think Priscilla Presley is or ever has been known homophobic behaviour, I think it was genuine fear, I can kinda forgive the AIDs fear thirty years ago since it was new and not much was publically known about the disease, now however that behaviour is unacceptable, especially since we know more now.

    I dunno
That has always been my understanding, at least with Larry. He took an instant dislike to the guy because he was effectively Patrick's replacement, which theoretically put him on Larry's level without "deserving it". You see this kind of thing when groups replace a member. The new one always gets frozen out until they either leave or prove their worth.

It's silly behavior but I guess Dallas being as big as it was someone just coming on and getting what they all feel they worked so hard for isn't always received well...

Interesting thought. Makes we want to re-visit Lorimar Dallas and figure out "Which Ewing Will Die?"

Ive been listening to the Larry interviews on the journey to work

Larry talks about Dack Rambo in this interview (starts about 4 mins into it) he also says that he didnt have much to do with Dack on Dallas and didnt know he was gay.

I've always found it amusing that for a show about the Ewing's we knew so little about them, that is Jock's ancestry. I do like your idea of a poor offshoot of the Ewing family. I wonder why the writers never visited this idea?

A poor Ewing’s story would be the same territory as Ray Krebs stories.
