So Joe is alive - but I hear that the actor is NOT returning. We just got to know that the character is alive, and leaving his hiding place in Monte Carlo.

And Debbie is apparently leaving for an extended time, as actress Charley Webb is pregnant and will soon leave for maternity leave.

Rats!! I was hoping to see Joe and Debbie come face to face.

It does seem to be a strange storyline, I don’t believe Joe would ever willingly leave Debbie without a word.

To be honest I wish they gave Debbie a stable love interest, her love life has been one clustermess after another!

It was a mess, and Emmerdale has been a bit of a mess in general in the last year. I think they weren't expecting the actor who played Joe to leave after only a year and so foolishly they decided to rewrite everything they had spent months establishing between him and Graham. Rather than leaving Graham on his own, he's now directly linked to Kim with a ready-made backstory.

Emmerdale for me has been a weird place for the last few years now, probably since the 40th anniversary in 2012

It no longer feels familiar, unlike Corrie and Easties (and the latter soap really hasn’t been itself for well over a decade now!) there is still a sense of familiarity with those soaps
