    Great clips, thanks for sharing. I had never seen them before. No wonder since those New Years I was like 2 and 3 years old and didn't know a word of English! :D

    Also I like how the poetry reading was all about Michele Lee!
    It was very clever. :)

    Cool. I did notice that she had a star on there when I went to LA on vacation back in 2017.

    I doubt they showed the US New Years shows on TV anywhere in Europe. I can't really speak for all of Europe as it's a diversified region. But considering that half of the countries were still behind the iron curtain in the 1980s and under heavy Russian influence in the cold war I really don't think so. I mean in those countries they weren't even allowed to broadcast American Tv-series in 1983 and 1984.:eck:

    Then as for my country, Sweden, we only had two TV-channels back then and on one channel they broadcast a national New Year's celebration from "Skansen" that is still on TV today. It's the same thing every year, a famous swedish person reads the Swedish translation of the poem "Ring out, wild bells" by Alfred Tennyson:

    Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
    The flying cloud, the frosty light;
    The year is dying in the night;
    Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

    Ring out the old, ring in the new,
    Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
    The year is going, let him go;
    Ring out the false, ring in the true.

    Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
    For those that here we see no more,
    Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
    Ring in redress to all mankind.

    Ring out a slowly dying cause,
    And ancient forms of party strife;
    Ring in the nobler modes of life,
    With sweeter manners, purer laws.

    Ring out the want, the care the sin,
    The faithless coldness of the times;
    Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
    But ring the fuller minstrel in.

    Ring out false pride in place and blood,
    The civic slander and the spite;
    Ring in the love of truth and right,
    Ring in the common love of good.

    Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
    Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
    Ring out the thousand wars of old,
    Ring in the thousand years of peace.

    Ring in the valiant man and free,
    The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
    Ring out the darkness of the land,
    Ring in the Christ that is to be.

    Then the bells tolls at midnight and they call out "Gott Nytt År!" (Happy New Year) Then there are fireworks and more music by some famous Swedish groups or artists that performs. So that's what is being broadcast on SVT for New Years still until this day!

    Also sorry this post got so OT
