The big news on Wednesday was of course Stephen Bannon being removed from the security council, while general McMaster - allegedly, one of the few quality people in this hideous administration - asserting control:

But there's more to the story.

A few weeks ago, mid March to be exact, The Washington Post reported on the 2 warring factions within the White House - the Democrats (or, rather, the plutocrats) like the Kushners and Gary Cohn who simply wanted to use the presidency to line their pockets on one side versus the conservative ideologists like Bannon and Miller who wanted to turn Washington upside down and reinforce their nutty anti-establishment and anti-immigrant ideas on the other:

About the same time a number of in-depth reports came along (like the one in The Huffington Post below) about Trump's uber-rich and uber-conservative donors Rebekah Mercer and her daddy Robert - Breitbart investors - who were instrumental in putting Bannon in charge of Trump's campaign and ensuring his senior advisor spot, thus their influence in the White House:

Now, Politico sheds more light on the rivalry within the White House and the newly empowered "Secretary of Everything" Jared Kushner clashing with Bannon and pushing for his removal - not too hard after Bannon's debacle with the rushed immigration ban and failing miserably at delivering the Freedom Caucus (a.k.a. Tea Party) votes for Trump's desperately needed healthcare win (the accounts of him trying to bully them, like the one below, were hilarious).

The Politico report below further claims Bannon was angry about being removed from the security council and wanted to resign (contrary to the "nothing to see here, move along" line they're of course pursuing publicly), but Rebekah Mercer stepped in and persuaded him to stay on. She's of course worried she'll lose her influence within the White House. And she's paid a lot of money to gain it.

Now The Daily Beast delves further into the Kushner / Bannon bitch-fight with this fun read:

"The fighting between Kushner and Bannon has been “nonstop” in recent weeks, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. It’s been an “open secret” that Bannon and Kushner often clash “face-to-face,” according to senior officials.

Bannon is a self-described “nationalist” and long-time Republican, while Kushner was, until his father-in-law ran for president, a lifelong liberal and a Democratic donor. "Steve thinks Jared is worse than a Democrat, basically," another official close to Bannon said.

Both Bannon and Kushner, and their respective allies in the White House, are digging in for a cold, if not increasingly hotter, war. For instance, Bannon’s far-right media allies are ready to wage a sustained war on their new enemy, Kushner.

(So funny - yet typical - how much Trump was irked by the 'President Bannon' skit on SNL).

Meanwhile, ex-NSA Schindler has this to say on Twitter:

"In the Trump WH fight between Alt-Right fanatics & NY liberal billionaires pretending to be Republicans, I'm shocked the latter won out."
