So incredibly sad.
Awful, just horrific. Though the mental state of her murderer seems like it needs examining. It isn't just a cowardly hate crime. To me it seems utterly deranged.
It's just a shame - and unfortunately inevitable - that the hate stirred up by the Leavers gave his sick mind something to latch onto.
Let's not forget that she was murdered within hours of UKIP's disgusting Breaking Point poster appearing:
Farage is clearly still very upset about it all:
In addition to the dagger and pistol, her killer also had a bag of bullets in his pocket when he was arrested.
More than 50,000 abusive and offensive tweets were sent celebrating Labour MP Jo Cox’s murder and praising her killer, Thomas Mair, as a "hero" or "patriot" and using terms like "white power" in the month following her death. Isn't that the most disgusting thing? The rise in right-wing extremism in our country and in the USA not only sickens me, it frightens me too. Now there is talk that Austria and even France could elect fascist leaders. I sometimes don't recognise the world I live in.
Agreed. The climate feels like it's changed quite quickly and a lot of progress is under thread of coming undone. I feel afraid about what is still to come.
I think this just about sums it up:
Absolutely terrifying and sickening. The woman was a wife and mother to two children, a three year old and five year old. How anyone could praise her murder is beyond me. Is this our future?
Today is the second anniversary of Jo's murder.
I was thinking earlier this week that I should bump this thread. #NeverForget
Jo Cox's murder was all the more shocking because it came out of the climate of hate that was being whipped up by supporters of Brexit during the referendum campaign. Two years later we have learned nothing as a nation and that hatred continues in our country. Only this week another hate-filled right winger was convicted of attempting to kill another female Labour MP. The sad truth is that another incident like this horrific murder could still happen and that's chilling.
