Not good news for fans of Fleetwood mac (like me!) from Variety

Lindsey Buckingham, guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire, has left the group Fleetwood Mac, Variety has confirmed. Buckingham has been a key member of Fleetwood Mac, playing with the band from from 1975 to 1987, then, after a decade-long break, returning to the fold in 1997. Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year later.

News of the exit was first shared by guitarist Billy Burnette, who tweeted on April 4, “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I’m not in.” The message was deleted a few hours after posting. Presumably, Burnette, who replaced Buckingham in the group from 1987 until it went on hiatus in 1995, was angling for a position in the band.

According to a source, Buckingham did not exit voluntarily, rather, says the insider, “He was fired.”

Buckingham was not a founding member of Fleetwood Mac, which formed in 1967, but was asked to join the group after the exit of Bob Welch in 1974. That incarnation of the band, which also included Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks, went on to release one of the most successful albums of its time, 1977’s “Rumours,” which has sold more than 40 million copies and yielded such classics as “Don’t Stop” and “Go Your Own Way,” the latter written by Buckingham alone, as well as “The Chain” and “You Make Loving Fun.”

As a solo artist, Buckingham has released six studio albums. Last year, he and Christine McVie teamed for a well-received collection of original songs under the banner Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie.

Fleetwood Mac is managed by CSM and Suretone Management and booked by CAA.

I wonder what's going on there then. I kinda fell in love with Lindsey when I saw them in Dublin a few years ago. He just totally blew me away with that guitar. He's unreal.

yeah i wonder what the hell did happen? i have Mick's Bio well both of them in fact his (1990) one that he says he made for the money and he apparently pissed everyone off when that came out back than. this 2nd one that came out 4 years ago though and after reading some of it when talking about the other bandmates he doesn't say anything i don't think bad about them. when he talks about Linday leaving in (1987) he admits that he was pissed than but gets it now. apparently when they got back together to do Tango he said that Lindsay changed his lifestyle which i think he meant that Lindsay quit drugs and none of us did we were still on them. and being in that envirement wasn't something he wanted and it wasn't the band or the people it was the drugs everyone was still taking back than. and he was being very kind to them and you kinda got the idea that since his last book he did a lot of growing up

and that's why i am really curious on why he was even fired? cause it wasn't like Dave Walker was fired in (1973) he was sleeping with i think Christine McVie which in turn i think killed their marriage. i may be wrong on that last part cause i don't remember, Danny Kirwin was fired cause the acid he took (1969) really fucked him up in the head and his behavior by (1972) was to the point was he shut out well alienated and he didn't realize it which proves on how far gone he was at the time. than you have Bob Welch who was fired for a time cause Mick's wife fell in love with Bob Welch. he was going by his emotions and i am not sure he they were sleeping together or not i don't think they did. but he hired him back cause of the fake Mac shit that was going on at the time. hence it's been over 40 years since anyone in the band was last fired
