I think they swapped exterior shots. The new one reminds me of some of the buildings at Lakeside Village in Culver City (yes, the same complex where Cliff’s condo was located). I’m not 100% sure though. Here are some related pictures that come up in the search of Lakeside Village.
here's one that should be a bit less mysterious, but still interesting. Bobby leads a rather persnickety group of church elders through a field a few miles from downtown (I think, anyway), showing them his architect's plans for the future School for Wayward Boys. You'd have to think this land has long since been developed (and alas, probably not with Bobby's school). Where exactly is it?
I think you hit it. Windows either side of the chimney, roof slant on the fire-places (assumed). Plus, it makes perfect sense, as the site is near to the studio. You're good!
Per the usual, we can assume it's further away than it looks. My guess is, based on the higher, darker green foliage following a line, this could be along the Trinity River heading toward West Dallas/Irving. I'm also basing this on the spread of the "Ewing" building and Reunion Tower, along with the angle of the Ewing building that shows the north side/west side.
JM10 - the two smoke stacks you referred to in a previous post in this thread are definitely there. I think it was when trying to establish the window shots from the early Ewing Oil offices.
The Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, demolished 2005. The Ambassador Hotel was located at 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, between Catalina Street and Mariposa Avenue in what is now known as Koreatown. 1 - Empty hall 2 - RFK at political convention 3 - S1E13 "Election" scene when Cliff was attacked by a reporter during the fashion show runway rehearsals. 4 - S7E27 "Turning Point" - Mark and Pam making wedding/reception plans
Peter gets pulled over and busted. Looks like the police pull out from around 901 Portero Rd, the road to JMJ Ranch in Thousand Oaks. Current Google Peter tailed by police car. Note tree in upper left. Peter stopped. JMJ entrance - current google.
You are right! There they are! I agree with you Bill and place this along the Trinity River. I guess it is somewhere between Sylvan Avenue and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
It’s crazy how many scenes were filmed here in the early seasons of Dallas! I don’t note any though after season seven until it reappears a couple of times in season 13 at the entrance and at the pool. 13.08 13.13 I can’t skip its appearance in 10.19 when Sue Ellen and Pam bring the boys to Los Angeles to get out of Calhoun’s reach only to have John Ross end up getting kidnapped! This is the only time it appears as a hotel set in Los Angeles.
I didn't realize until Bill mentioned it and I took to Google Maps that there was such a large swath of land along the river that's still undeveloped. I thought for sure that area where they filmed that scene would be built up by now.
They liked to film that location over the years! It's hard to tell which view is more distorted, but I'm pretty sure the main tree in both shots here is the same. (the one to the right of the horse in the Dallas pic and in the middle of the frame in the Google pic circa 2008)
It is a floodplain so pretty much no development takes place between the levees other than walking trails.
Yes they did! It’s interesting to see things like this pop up again and again with multiple viewings.
it's amazing how much the events that took place in that hotel changed the course of Texas, US, and indeed world history - the RFK assassination, the Great Texas Senate Race Abortion Scandal Ambush of 1978...
it looks like the cop was sitting at the driveway at 782 Potrero Rd. They've built a wall near the road since then, but the pillars at the ends of the old stone walls at the side of the driveway are still there. (it's not a shabby little estate, I'd say) https://www.trulia.com/p/ca/thousan...-oaks-ca-91361--2116018853?mid=4#lil-mediaTab
ok, one more Portero Rd. one before the nice men in the white coats show up to haul me off to the looney bin again: first, a creative shot from a tree in Sue Ellen's Sister, just before the famous 'Bobby drives around the bend, passing a small blue car going the other direction' segment that they used in a subsequent season as well. note that the road is bending to the right, and there's a driveway not far away on the right. Check out the two (not sure of the word - pillars? columns?) flanking the end of the driveway, just to the right of the ditch and shrubs, and the round pot-like ornaments on top (not the figures with the red tops and white pants to the right of that). now, flash forward to Google Maps 2008: - I think the camera is in/by the tree on the left of the road here. You can see the road is about to bend to the right: and as you go a little bit further, voila, there's a driveway that still has those round pot-like things on top of the column/pillar driveway-flanking things! (maybe the pot-like things are 'cups', like the 'Stanley Cup' or the 'Ryder Cup' or trophies from Wimbledon) . The wall to the right of the road, of course, is post-1978
