I remember my Mother and I going to see the original when it came out in theaters, and we've already made plans to see this one. Can't wait, either.

I just saw the track list for the second movie, i most say some real great songs for the movie and most where also big hits for ABBA. :)

Too bad they changed it. I guess that means that Björn and Benny are into "House of Cards" at the time being. Yet I still think they should have kept "Dallas" as it was in the original and IMHO it was the best line in the entire song!

Besides I think Dallas is a more famous show that's been seen by more people around the globe.

I think Dallas (and the other 80s soaps) have joined Peyton Place as being TV Classics In The Vaults and I can understand why they would want to update those pop culture references to something more...well, relevant.
Maybe it should have been "CSI" because together with the spin-offs there must be a thousand episodes.

Mamma Mia is pure kitschy fun. It's created in the same way. No one pretends it's Oscar material. It's only meant for the audience to smile and sing along. I bet the actors had a blast taping.

Well like you said yourself, Dallas is a classic. I think 20 years from now people will still watch it and know what it was.

I doubt some of the current popular shows that seems relevant now will still remain so 30 years from now...

But then again I guess the song is a product of it's time and so is the "Mamma Mia" movies...

I'm sure they did. But that doesn't make it a fun movie, and this is definitely not kitsch. It's an ordinary sing-a-long party with some romcom storylines.

But it could have been, especially with Meryl Streep in it. See, that's what I meant with underrating ABBA's music. Why should it be fluffy fun, why not trying to create something interesting?

Well the original movie was based on the musical so that's the story they had to work with. It is meant to be mindless fun that will entertain the masses so no it's not Oscar worthy material even though their leading lady sure has taken home the Oscar more times than most actresses!

Those people who actually watched it (35+ years old) will remember watching it, but what do they remember about the show itself?
We soapfans are not the majority.

Give me one good reason why that musical had to become a movie.

To make Money, money, money! :D

I mean the original musical was very popular and had already been seen by millions of people around to globe so Hollywood being Hollywood decided that they should make a movie out of it to cash in on it's success...

No but I am just saying that Dallas is a famous show. It was on a channel that most people had access to at a time where cable TV was still unusual. So in some countries you only had two options, which means that pretty much half of the population of those countries watched Dallas. Even now most people have heard of it, in parts due to the revival which gave it a new younger audience.

The show they replaced it with I had to google to even know what it is. It's on Netflix, meaning a large chunk of the population doesn't even have access to watch it.

Also since "Mamma Mia" is a "Sing-a-long party" why change the original lyrics of the song?
Because if people go to the cinema and doesn't know of the change they are bound to end up singing "the wrong" lyrics!

Especially as Digger Barnes's granddaughter is one of the stars of the new film.

That quote could just as easily have described the original film.

Aha - I wondered about that!

It does! It's about how similar the new one is to the first one, although the reviewer prefers the new one.

… is the granddaughter of Keenan Wynn, the second actor to play Digger Barnes.

I don't know who you mean by "Julie".

Well since you wrote Digger Barnes I thought you meant the character of Pamela Rebecca Cooper and she was portrayed by Julie Gonzalo on Dallas TNT...

But you were referring to the actor who played Digger Barnes real life granddaughter so thanks for clearing that up! ;)

So Cher has announced she is going to release an album of ABBA covers, but it's not what you think of when you think ABBA. Apparently she's done it in a different way. Yea, I'm here for that Cher. Thanks love!

Also the creator of the Mamma Mia stage show is helping Cher create a musical based on her life.

I mean, what's next? They are gonna tell me that Unicorns are real and their horn is made from diamonds and they fart rainbows.

It just has to be true.
