I'm currently rewatching Season 5 (DVD 6) and Mark Graison who is essentially a good guy pursuing married Pam is very off putting. JR obviously gives him a few nudges in his pursuit but really it's very sleazy (not helped either by his porn star tash) it's not even like Pam and Bobby had any problems he was aware of when he first started chasing her either. Making him an old buddy of Bobbys was even more bizarre.

I think the writers could've introduced him in a much better way. What do you think?

that was so common on the show... the loathsome Alex Ward for Pam, dapper older businessman Matt Devlin for Miss Ellie, Dusty for Sue Ellen. Is it really that common in real life? Not sure I want to know!

I expected it of playboy Alex and Dusty was saving Sue Ellen from an abusive marriage. Mark was written as a good guy who had no reason to split up a at first in his eyes happy marriage which made it harder to grasp.

Pam was responsible for her own choices, and she separated from Bobby of her own accord. And Mark waited a long time, after she was divorced, to get all up in that stuff.

    That pic :eck:

He shouldn't have been so brazen in his original pursuit though.

I’m currently on season 6. I place ALL of the blame on Pam. When Marc initially started pursuing her, she was separated from Bobby. Pam could have ended it anytime she wanted to but she didn’t. Hell, she went to France (of all places) with Marc. Plus, Pam used every excuse to stay be separated from Bobby. The Ewing Oil contest was just an excuse for her to leave.

This is true with Pam and in real life. If someone is getting in the way of a marriage, it’s because one of the two spouses (Pam) is allowing it to happen.

She actually wasn't separated from him when he first started pursuing her. He sent her flowers etc knowing she was in a happy marriage.

I do genuinely believe Pam thought Bobby had changed from the man she knew and loved and the scene when he tells her he set up that guy with the cocaine pretty much sowed a ton of doubts in her mind that he'd changed. When her mother was indirectly killed because of JR and Bobbys fight it spiralled out of control even more.

I definitely don't put all the blame on Pam.

If she had any intention of saving her marriage, the first time he sends her flowers she make it abundantly clear that she’s married and she has no interest. She didn’t do that.

As for her mom being killed indirectly because of JR and Bobby’s fight. I’m not buying that. Katherine became just as obsessed with the Ewings as Cliff. She got on that plane to stop a JR move. That’s on her. And if it wasn’t that, it would have been something else to make Pam leave.

I didn't have a problem with him pursuing Pam. As far as soap sins go pursuing a married woman is pretty low down on the list. Mark was someone who was probably quite spoiled and used to getting what he wanted, and if you fall for one of the most beautiful women in the world and she seems to be showing an interest in you why wouldn't you pursue her? He may have been a supposedly good guy but that doesn't mean he has to have perfect morals.

It seems to be Bobby and Pam shippers and women who hate mustaches who always have it in for Mark.

I guess I'm just old fashioned but for me a soap good guy just doesn't go actively chasing the wife of someone in a happy marriage certainly not an old friends happy marriage.

She said it, but with a smile. It wasn’t a hard “NO.” She could have slammed the door in his face numerous times. She didn’t.

Bobby was supposedly a good guy too but he did plenty of amoral things. I'd rather have well rounded characters with shades of dark and light and that's something Dallas did very well.

I agree even good guys have flaws but chasing happily married women shouldnt be one of them and good on any guy who has that standard fictional or real life.

I think she was flattered he found her attractive and Bobby wasn't giving her much attention at that time so it was probably a nice ego boost. She still gave him a clear no though without being rude about it. I think she felt sorry for him at first and that was true to Pam's character.

I think she found him very charming (which he was) and was attracted to him from the get go. She may have tried to suppress that because she loved Bobby and wanted their marriage to work, but I'm sure Mark could sense that she liked him. He wouldn't have kept pursuing her if he wasn't getting some kind of vibes from her.

I genuinely don't think she gave him the impression she was interested one little bit on their first few meetings. She was civil and friendly to him as any decent person would be but she always put the message across clearly that she was married and wasn't interested.

You don’t accept gifts from another man if you’re not interested. The first time, maybe, just to be nice as you say, but the second time, absolutely not. If she valued her marriage, she did a pass poor job at pushing Mark away.
