so many films and choices and we are rarely over lapping here
This is probably the decade I have spent the least time going to the cinema, for a whole variety of reasons but i think i have been twice this year, used to be twice a month at one time!!

Great, because I'm waiting for the final chapter of Star Wars to open before I finish my list.

It's true we all have different favorites from the past decade and the way we are watching movies is changing. Going to the cinema feels like a luxury that I only sometimes have time for. It's more convenient to watch a movie on the home movie projector than to go out a lot of the time. So I watch more movies on DVD than at the cinema and I have discovered a lot of movies while travelling on long distant flights too. Movies I might not have watched otherwise and some have left a lasting impression on me. :)

    Anyway this is my list:

    1. Still Alice (2014)
About a woman who is battling early Alzheimers. We see her lose herself. It is a sad movie. It stars Alec Baldwin and Julianne Moore.

    2. The Iron Lady (2011)
Meryl Streep portrayed Margaret Tatcher to a T. It was a fascinating account of that time. My mom and I watched this at the cinema.

    3. Bridget Jones Baby (2016)
This movie made me cry when I watched it on a flight across the Atlantic. As a woman that is approaching a certain age and who doesn't have kids yet but still really wants them this movie just spoke to me on so many levels. It was funny and messed up but also really touching.

    4. Suffragette (2015)
It's about the women's movement and getting the right to vote. It's set in Britain in the 1910s.

    5. Shutter Island (2010)
Fascinating Leo Di Caprio movie that left me with a lot to think about.

    6. Mamma Mia! - Here We Go Again (2018)
More ABBA goodness but not really a feel good movie. It made me cry when I watched it at the cinema.

    7. The King's Speech (2010)
Another fascinating account of the British Royal family.

    8. Mother's Day (2016)
This movie made me cry when I saw it at the cinema. It's a feel good movie sort of. It is also director Garry Marshall's last movie. It stars Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

    9. Jurassic World (2015)
A classic horror movie that reminded me about how much I loved it when the original movie came out. It was one of the first scary movies I was allowed to watch at the cinema.

    10. Star Wars - The Force Awakens (2015)
My best friend is a big fan. Although I am not I do get how huge it was to see Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford reprise those roles.

Movies just below my list that I think are great and deserves a mentioning:

    Breathe (2017)
A true story about a man who is struggling to live with Polio. It changed his life. But his wife stood by him. It was touching.

    Brooklyn (2015)
A great story about a young woman leaving her home in Europe to emigrate to the USA. She leaves her mother and sister behind.

    A Star Is Born (2018)
Lady Gaga is brilliant in this remake. I love some of the songs too.

    Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
I love the original movie and this managed to recapture the feel of it really nicely. Emily Blunt does a good job at recapturing the magic but her performance can never surpass the original performance by Julie Andrews.

    and finally...

Honorable mentioning goes out to "The Normal Heart" (2014) with Julia Roberts. It's a movie about the HIV/AIDS epidemic that came in the 1980s told from a gay POV. It was a fascinating time capsule that told me a lot about how people thought back then. But it's a TV movie.

So yeah definitely many choices from the past decade and I am almost regretting not making this a Movie Top 15 instead of a Movie Top Ten... ;)

P.S. But we are not changing it. It will be enough work as it is to compile all the movie choices together at the end. Thank you to everyone who is putting the years in brackets as it will make it easier for me at the end. :) D.S.

This was a brilliant documentary that I had completely forgotten about. I can't believe it came out in 2013 I thought it was much older. This really affected me and others about Sea World and Marine Land and the horrible things they did to the whales and other ocean life. Good Choice Mel. I am now going to re-watch it. I don't believe in capturing any animals for our entertainment for Sea World or Zoo's it's just wrong to keep wildlife caged in when they need to be wild and free.

I completely agree, TBG. It's a powerful film and really gets people thinking about the price the animals pay for the whims of greedy people. I found it tough to watch and couldn't make it through without a tear or two. But it's great that there's so much awareness around it thanks to the film.

Gosh, I suddenly feel pressure on me

I thought it gave great closure to a lot of characters, had some very special touching moments with a few good surprises thrown in.

Oh don´t worry about the pressure! (Though I don´t say things like that to anyone...;))

I have to watch it yet, and I can´t wait. I want to go with my bf and I´m trying like crazy not to be spoiled (though I couldn´t help knowing something about Han...not exactly what).
