Hi. I don't think I've posted in the Dallas forum before, so hello to anyone I haven't come across on the other forums.

I came across this quote from Morgan Fairchild in a recent interview where she talks about working with Bette Davis on Hotel.

"I was telling her about some of my battles with Lorimar (Television) on ‘Dallas’ and she says, ‘You remind me of me when I was young, the way I stood up to Jack Warner,’"

I thought that Morgan was only in Dallas for one episode? So she wouldn't have had a great deal of time to do any battling. Is it documented that she had run ins with producers during her brief time on Dallas? Or is it a case of her mixing up her Lorimar shows and her battles were actually during her time on Flamingo Road or Falcon Crest?

Very interesting, maybe she had a run in with them over her original contract to play Jenna and that's why she refused to reprise the role when they wanted her to. She's a pretty sharp cookie, so I don't see her mixing up Dallas and FR, but it's possible that she did.

Morgan was the best Jenna I wish she had played her during Priscilla's stint.

Had MF returned to play Jenna in her third stint during the mid 80s, Jenna for certain would've been written in a different way, much more stronger than PP played her

I don´t know for sure but I highly doubt that she had problems with the Dallas producers because the show meant (almost) nothing when she guest-starred in the first full season.

Probably she was talking about FR or FC. I did read that she didn´t like how the "artist" formerly known as "Babilonia" (Angela dixit) had more scenes than herself, who had a pre-end title credit (like Cliff Robertson did) as "Also Starring". You can read between lines (like most of us did at the time...) but Morgan is classy all the way. Maybe she is referring to this, or maybe she had problems with the Flamingo producers. I remember another interview, this time with Cristina Raines, her co-star in FR, posted in a very interesting blog. Among other things, she said this about Morgan:

"I really liked everybody in that cast, except for one person. (laugh) Morgan and I were not friends and we just didn't get along. I think we are just two very different individuals with two very different ways of viewing the world, two very different ways of going about things. You might say that the dynamics between us as individuals was not unlike the dynamics between our characters, Lane and Constance. Maybe that's why it worked so well on-screen? (laugh) So, what the hell, at least it made our scenes on the show work!"

The interview is available to read here:
    http://hillplace.blogspot.com.es/2014/06/since-youve-gone-cristina-raines-interview.html

Cristina also said some pleasantries about Mr. Michael Filerman, who seems to be really liked only by the Knots Landing cast, to be true...Oh and to round up the gossip, Morgan was going after Mark Harmon in real life, but the latter ended up in Cristina´s (beautiful) arms for awhile.

For me, Francine Tacker was the best Jenna Wade. She had the best chemistry with Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal, too.

I am fond of Priscilla Presley on Dallas but I'm a bigger fan of Morgan's overall work, so it would've been great to see her as Jenna long term. I reckon she would've sparred well against JR and given Jenna a lot more dimensions than what Priscilla brought to the role.

As it happens, why was Priscilla brought in rather than Morgan? Was it stated at the time or was it just down to scheduling? Morgan had garnered plenty of heat with her role in Flamingo Road but was Priscilla seen as better stunt casting?

Somehow I just can't imagine Morgan's "Jenna" as Bobby's first love. Priscilla, yes, and she had that Southfork quality that the others hadn't (imho).
But maybe she wasn't experienced enough for the really dramatic scenes?

I agree with you. And she probably also was the one who spent less time at the makeup room. And who used less hairspray... :danc:

    I dunno
Morgan's Jenna was a spoilt brat turned poor. The way they wrote Jenna once Priscilla stepped into the role was much softer. But Jenna pretty much changed every time a new actress stepped into the role - how exactly did Jenna go from a spoilt heiress (without an inheritance) to a successful business woman to a waitress again? This was never explained by the show.

i liked Morgan Fairchild as a one off Jenna, but i think if she had been back for longer she would have been a hateful vindictive kath Wentworth type of Jenna

I didnt mind PP as Jenna especially in S6 and 7

Francine Tacker IMHO was plain dull, boring and insipid so glad she didnt last

I was lucky to meet Morgan fairchild at Fan Source in 2008, i didnt expect to like her - but i did , she was smart, she was clever, astute, politically aware and she impressed me

She also said that one member of the cast wasnt very nice to her, GO FIGURE!! lol Cos she didnt act with very many!!

But that was the whole purpose of Jenna, she was suppose to be Morgan's manipulative gold digging thorn in Pam's side who could have given Pam a run for her money for Bobby, not Priscilla's annoying hot mess Jenna that Pam would have known was no threat to her relationship with Bobby.

I think Francine Tacker did a decent enough job and came much closer to playing Jenna the way she was intended than Priscilla ever did.

I don't know her at all, but she strikes me as a no-nonsense TV professional who knows her strengths and limitations.

I saw Morgan on a TV talk show, I think TONIGHT with either Carson or Rivers, in 1984 after Presley had started playing Jenna. Morgan said they'd asked her to come back, and that her mother almost had a heart attack when she heard about the salary offer that Fairchild had turned down. But Morgan said she "intuitively" knew that returning to DALLAS was the wrong thing to do.

The next year, of course, she went to FALCON CREST for drab, cluttered Season 5.

I don't know. Presley seemed okay in her first year, but her performance went down hill after that...

I do know that the earlier Fairchild version of the character -- scheming and moneyhungry -- wouldn't have worked with the later, smugger Bobby; he wouldn't have accepted anybody less docile than Priscilla by that point.

Morgan Fairchild's Jenna had the most magnificent breasts. 1970s polyester was no match for them.

Francine Tacker gave the best performance, the most focused, but she needed a majorly different hairstyle -- ideally one not parted in the center, for purposes of schnozz de-emphasis.

"Scheduling" was the "official" reason given for bringing in Francine to play Jenna #2, but in the years since then, Morgan has made it clear publicly that she did not have a pleasant experience on the Dallas set. Since she had turned them down once, she would not have been asked a second time. Priscilla was name value stunt casting, pure and simple. Her lack of dramatic talent was unfortunately ignored and the writers had to scramble to dumb Jenna down to Priscilla's very limited capability. Don't know why they didn't have Francine come back, but it's too bad she didn't.

i always thought that not in a million years would a young Bobby Ewing go out with a bland Francine Tacker Jenna, so insipid, lank hair with split ends! and not too pretty
I always remember a friend saying jamie was too ugly to be a Ewing lol I felt the same re Francine, a plain Jane
if it was post Pam yes as he went out with just about anyone who had a pulse

Based on Morgan Fairchild's limited appearance on Dallas how does she continue to state her unpleasantance working on set. She is an actress. You're given a script. You prepare. You show up, rehearse and then the director says, "Action!"

Was she expecting her scenes to be of Bette Davis, Emmy award winning material? I suspect she regrets her decision not to accept the producers generous offer to resume the role of Jenna and now attempts to cover her "dumbness" to reflect poorly on those behind the scenes of Dallas.

Two of the Jennas most likely just fell out of portals from alternate dimensions, in my opinion.
