Hello fellow Dallas fans! Huge fan of Dallas , The Original Series.

So, heres my problem. .....maybe you all can help.

A few years ago, I watched the entire run of Dallas, then the reboot, then the entire run of Dynasty and now I just finished the entire run of Knots Landing. Loved Knots...

So......should I now watch the entire run of Falcon Crest, or go back and do the entire run of Dallas again??? For those that have seen the entire run of Falcon Crest, is it worth it???

For what its worth, I immensely enjoyed Dynasty and Knots Landing. Not as fantastic as Dallas, but I enjoyed them just the same.

Im thinking maybe watch all of Falcon Crest, then go back and enjoy Dallas all over again as a real treat.

Please let me know what you think ! Your opinions are very valuable to me.

    Thanks!

    Yes!

Or you could watch Peyton Place before going back to Dallas.

    I dunno
I'd definitively watch Falcon Crest - Angela is a wonderfully complex character, plus you have hunky Lance, L'Oreal-haired Maggie and wicked Melissa, among others.

Don't forget "The Colbys". It has just 2 seasons, but it's a great soap and ties in with Dynasty's seasons 6 and 7.
Another 2 seasons soap from the early 80s comes to my mind now: Flamingo Road. Great fun as well!

You could watch Dallas, Falcon Crest and maybe Peyton Place all at the same time, an episode of each, alternately. Or maybe that's just the kind of thing I do.

Update: DVDs have arrived and I watched the very first episode.

So Far, so Good! I like the characters. From my limited sample size, I think Falcon Crest has a very Dallas like quality to it. And I see alot of JR Ewing in Angela Channing. And that theme song is pretty amazing.

That was by Bill Conti, who also wrote the much-loved themes from Dynasty and Cagney & Lacey (and Rocky) :)

ha!! Thanks Richard. I noticed tonight that Falcon Crest was produced by Lorimar. No wonder it lasted so long.

Saw Episode #2 tonight. Good stuff!!

Just checking in to say so far, I'm really enjoying "Falcon Crest". Lots of similarities to "Dallas". The characters are very interesting. But BOY, does Robert Foxworth remind me of Robert Reed of The Brady Bunch!!!

Foxworth is one of the biggest problems with FC, IMHO. He’s the show’s male lead, and yet he’s so humorless and unlikeable. Still, the show suffered from his departure later on - Chase was Angela’s key adversary for many years. I just wish it was easier to root for him.

Clu Gulager, who played the role in the pilot, was also pretty unlikeable as Chase.

Funny you say that about Foxworth, not untrue, HE was the original choice to play JR Ewing. Foxworth said JR was too unlikeable and mean. Why would an actor turn down a villain role? Falcon Crest is a solid show, it actually has an ending.... something Dynasty, Dallas, The Colbys never got..... Susan Sullivan was one of my favorites, Ana Alicia.... watch it.... I just finished Dynasty.... except for season 8 which was terrible, the show was fun and occasionally inspired. Joan Collins was NOT a bitch....

    2017 I think (unless it is 2016)
I would not actually recommend any of the big four (DALLAS, DYNASTY, KNOTS LANDING, FALCON CREST) in their entirety, but each has its own strengths, and the first few seasons of Falcon Crest are really solid and quite satisfactory narrative-wise. The first two are the tighter, most novel-like of the show, but the third one is really good as well. After that it's a question of whether you get invested in the characters to keep watching or not.
