I thought I had conquered my junk mail but there's this one member who keeps emailing me daily and I don't know what to do about it.

Well, I didn't want to have to tag you and embarrass you in front of everyone, but here we are...

I haven't opened the email, just in case there's more than a wig you're tearing away from your body.

That's bonkers! Do the admins and mods here get stuff like that often? How is it from me? I don't have a clue how that works? Or is it actually just someone called Alexis?
    I'm so green....

    No, no, noooo

It's not really from you, it's one of those standard spam things that arrive in Hotmail junk folder. It's always a different name, so I took the opportunity of messing with you when I received the one from Alexis.

Our SC account gets plenty of sexual offers, quite a few are offering free porn to the forums. Other offers are asking for money and they will make our forums gain more traffic and then we get bugged with the 'advertise and make money' deals.

Back when I lived in Georgia, we had a temporary minister at our Church who apparently put the entire membership list of e-mail addresses into her contact list. I assume at some point she opened one of those links in a phishing e-mail, because we (like...125 people) started getting spammed with stuff like this e-mail @Ome has shared with us. Every time I saw her name on an e-mail I knew what it was, since she was long-gone from our Church but the spam is forever. I abandoned that e-mail addy years ago, but I'll bet it's out there in cyberspace somewhere, piling up junk e-mails by the hundreds of thousands. I'm pretty sure hers was a hotmail account, too.

My search bar always warns me about soapchat.net being "not safe" but I always knew that "Dienasty" fans were as dangerous as Claudia Blaisdel in a bad hair day...

Has anyone had any of those sextortion emails which includes a real password of yours, tells you they've hacked your computer and threatens to send your saucy selfies to all your contacts if you don't pay them money via Bitcom?

I've had a few now, and the first one rather freaked me out. Not because I have anything particularly racy on my computer, but because the sender had linked a real password of mine with my email account, which made me start to question if someone actually had hacked into my computer.

I'm not alone in receiving them...

Yes I had one last year and I reported it to the police. It used words like 'your friends and family will know what you've been up to on those porn websites'.

I freaked out (not because I am using porn websites) but because it asked me for money and said it would EXPOSE me for various things.

Sounds well dodgy from my end I know :D

Turns out it was a massive scam targeting people in N Ireland. The PSNI replied to me and told me to do nothing and just delete it.

No, not at all. Having been in the same position as you I can understand the questioning and self doubt that comes with it, even though you have nothing to hide. There's something about someone knowing a piece of your secret information (the password) that can really mess with your head.

It was a "relief " (kind of) to know that the password would probably have been gained during a security breach of one of the shopping sites on which I use passwords. Though it's frustrating not knowing which site they got it from, and with autofill thingies I can't remember which passwords I use where.

I had one too and it freaked me out because it mentioned an old password of mine. Obviously, I knew I had nothing to hide and it also mentioned that it had captured images of me. That's when I felt it was a scam because I don't have any webcam connected.

I then got a couple more which didn't use the old password.

I got one of those last month at the new, main e-mail I've started using. Same shpiel about "exposing" me to everyone in my contacts list...which was hilarious because there were (and still are) no contacts in it. They didn't toss my password around, though--they just sent me an e-mail using my own e-mail address to make it look like they were so clever...when it's just the cyber version of spoofing a phone number, which is....well, so 2004.

Warning this response contains material that might offend some people.

Yes, I got an email from a spammer saying they had hacked my account and to prove it they supplied me with a password that I had used in the past. They claimed they had accessed my webcam and recorded video of me wanking while viewing a porn site and unless I paid them a vast sum of money they would send the video to all my email contacts.

I've never actually done that so I knew it was a scam and even if I had, I wouldn't really care enough about what my email contacts would think to make me want to part with my hard earned cash. However, I can see how it could be very worrying for some people to receive such an email and I suspect there are some who would pay up rather than having things they do in the privacy of their own home being shared with a wider audience.
