Thanks for sharing. That was a great piece of her with lots of old clips sprinkled in. I didn't know that she was on Star Trek before.

John was old-school. I think he just didn't like her being a powerful woman. The other women on the show didn't appear half as opinionated and tough. The way old-school men prefers it.

Combine that with different personalities that don't quite match. Of that, I am well aware. I have a colleague that drives me bonkers for talking too much. Now, just seeing her makes my good mood decrease.

I think Joan is being very uncharitable and unfair to John Forsythe. She wrote a nice tribute when he died, so its a shame she feels its OK to trash him now in her old age.

All the other Dynasty women from Linda Evans, to Pamela Sue Martin to Terri Garber said he was a true gentlemen, and he was very much a father figure - which doesn't jive with being misogynistic.

It's just that he didn't tolerate Joan's brand of narcissism.

Terri Garber when I interviewed her said that Joan was very passive aggressive on set, especially towards other women.

I agree that it is a bit petty for her to be trashing someone dead in interviews--the feud should be over when one dies. Yet Joan Collins is not the only who has mentioned Forsythe being a diva. Shapiro mentioned how all he cared about when the show started was that every episode have him in the first and last scene. It was easy for him to get along with women who did not threaten his throne. Not so much with someone who obviously outshone him in popularity. And the writers whose plots he canned or actors whose plots he nixed (like Ali McGraw) did not see him as a perfect gentleman.

She was talking about her on the set.

    But he was being derisive.
You're filling in too many blanks. Collins is the only one who projected her own divadom onto Forsythe. Yes, Esther made that weird point that Forsythe supposedly wanted each episode to start and finish with him (which never occurred as a pattern, by the way) and we all know how unreliable her stories are. But Shapiro also praised Forsythe as "a team player" without the ego issues of, say, George Peppard or Joan Collins.

Everyone said John was sweet and professional. Collins, not so much.

Still naughty little puppy hardly implies She Bitch from Hell. It sounds more a term of endearment than anything else.
He was one of the closest on set to Joan during that time, had most of his scenes with her and they were friends so he was hardly being derisive. I don't think that's the right word. There is a difference between playful teasing and being snide or jeering. Wasn't it said on one of those Dynasty retrospective talking heads shows?

Yet none of this amounts to anything. I could, if I could be bothered probably go and find more positive quotes from Dynasty co-stars. There just isn't an example of Joan's apparently bad behaviour on set, or any story that suggests she was hard to work with or unprofessional.

There is a saying. Never speak ill of the dead. Well, this is how I was raised. When I read or hear comments from people speaking negative about a deceased person they tend to lose favour in my good books. Dead people can't speak.

Those Jackie Collins movies undoubtedly were a great part of her being cast as Alexis in the first place.
When John says she was well cast as she'd been playing the role her whole life, he isn't really lying. It's half jab at her, half truth. She was the bitch before she was Alexis the bitch. The same with Gordon Thomson and his "she was very well cast" comment. From the late '60s on Joan Collins had been playing that type of character. It was always changing and evolving and moving towards her crowning moment as Alexis. She was becoming that dark exotic, glamourous, seductress, villainess, grand English bitch diva, more and more with every role.

If it was good enough to get her cast, good enough to make her character the best thing about the show, then I'm afraid it was good enough for the show.

Although one could argue that some (most?) of the other characters were neglected. In that case it's not really an achievement to be the most popular.

I think it is a testament to how nobody was looking out for the show long-term. But it's also ridiculous that after Spelling, the Shapiros, and the Pollocks made/allowed the show to be all about Alexis, they were then surprised when she demanded to be paid commensurate with her status on the show, and had to refuse to start working to achieve it.

Sure but they all got paid for 8 years, or however else was left on their contract. I'd call that a result.

Well when you look at it that way you can see where Joan puts that quasi-feminist, sexist spin on it.
