I just saw the whole series is up on YouTube in good quality. If you love these soaps and haven't seen it you should go watch. I really loved it and it's only like 13 episodes?

I'm not putting the link here as I don't think the poster wants the link shared. Just search Paper Dolls s01e01

    Enjoy. @Willie Oleson

There is an episode missing, the Pilot was a 2 hour episode which SoapNet split into two. The second episode should open again with the Nicollette Sheridan photo shoot sequence with the Billie Jean theme, it then cuts to Brenda Vaccaro and Morgain Fairchild in a limo after they left Lloyd Bridges and Dack Rambo's office at the end of the first episode.

Thanks, Canon. I've enjoyed this episode.

It's a bit strange that the daughter of a cosmetics tycoon works as a model.
Wesley Harper is a snake, he reminds me of Peter De Vilbis.

And what are the Caswells doing in Karen MacKenzie's kitchen??

Perhaps they were the neighbours we never saw, and then they moved to their own show. So, just like Models Inc, Paper Dolls was spun off from a spin-off.

Brenda Vaccaro is perfect as the chain-smoking mother from hell.

    It's fabulous.

I really got to get around to watching this at some point. Maybe as soon as I finish SAVANNAH, another short-lived one.

It's better than SAVANNAH. I re-watched both at around the same time. I wish I hadn't have bothered with SAVANNAH. It really wasn't as fun the second time around. Do PAPER DOLLS first. :)

Oh, I'm mostly done with Season 2 on that one, so I guess I'll finish it first. Just a few more episodes to go. (It's taken me 9 years to finish two seasons!). I can actually see PAPER DOLLS being better!

9 years!!! Ha! I went on a failed soap rampage a few years ago and watched PAPER DOLLS, CPW, MODELS INC and SAVANNAH all around the same time. I think I enjoyed PAPER DOLLS the most out of them all. I then went on to MELROSE PLACE but stopped at season 5 I think.

Has anyone seen the Paper Dolls TV Movie starring Joan Collins as Morgan Fairchild and Daryl Hannah as Nicollette Sheridan?

Yes, 7 of which I have spent on Season 2! LOL But I'm almost done.

Oh, I encourage you to finish MELROSE, if only for the few bright spots in Season 6 (like the Christmas episode) and the wonderful Season 7!

Yes, when it was shown on tv a long time ago. I don't remember if I liked it or not but in those days I watched everything with the primetime-soap actors in it.
Surely that was the only reason to watch the dreadful "Hotel" series?

Last night I've watched the second episode again and things made more sense now. Eventhough I haven't seen all of it, I've been pondering about the question why Paper Dolls failed to become a long running soap series.
Maybe one of the reasons is that it doesn't have a strong base i.e. there's a little bit of everything in it. There's the models, Racine's company, the Harper company and family, but they're not as significant as the Ewings and the Carringtons.
I could use the same arguments for Knots Landing and Peyton Place, but these stories focus on the place and its inhabitants, or neighbours and friendships.
Also, I don't think cosmetics and perfumes are as "epic" as oil or cars or land. It's going to be hard to come up with an earth-shattering lipstick storyline.

Still, all of this says nothing about the quality of the show, but to me it looks more like one of those Judith Krantz mini-series, or "Bare Essence" (another cancelled soap) which was based on the glitzy novel by Meredith Rich.

    My thoughts about Racine.
Right from the start the show wants me to believe that she's a ruthless tough-as-nails business woman, but all I see is a woman who's feeling quit superior for no apparent reason and she seems very relaxed and blasé about everything. Hopefully something will change that otherwise she'll become the dullest character of the show.
Abby Ewing never appeared to be blasé about anything, she was a worker (who looked like a Lucy Ewing/Marilee Stone hybrid) and who also never wasted her time on revenge or feuds or stuff like that. She was always completely herself, I mean, true to herself and she out-Dallassed all of the original Dallas characters.
Somehow I picture Dolly Parton as that kind of person, and maybe I would have liked Racine to be a little bit more like Dolly Parton.

    But anyway.
The girls are adorable, especially without make-up, and back in highschool I had a crush on someone who looked exactly like Laurie Caswell.
For obvious reasons, this show *screams* the 1980s.
It's far more glittery than Dallas and Falcon Crest, but it's hard to equal, let alone beat, Dynasty and The Colbys in terms of glamour.

Blair and David are going to have a baby, it's a very happy moment but it ends with a couple that keeps their personal doubts and fears secret from eachother.
    upload_2017-2-2_18-50-0.png

Favourite quote: (Racine, after her phone conversation with Ms. Caswell) "Talking to Dinah always makes me so sleepy. It must be all of that fresh air from suburbia filtering through".

It had decent ratings, but it had a 3 week break..and the shoe gsined traction.

Plus, there were too many characters...Racine, the two teen models plus their mothers were what the tv movie focused on...and i think the model aspect should have been focused on more in the series. It was an avenue not focused on during the 80s during the peimetime soap craze.

Interesting plot development in episode 3: brother and sister Harper are not enemies, despite the fact that he envies her for being daddy's favourite, and apparently she doesn't hate him for treating her husband like scum.
    upload_2017-2-3_18-15-15.png
This is a typical have-your-cake-and-eat-it method that was used in all the prime time soaps, the prime example being JR Ewing.
There would be no dysfunctional family without at least one character showing undisguised contempt for (one of) the other family members, but these bullies have to get away with it in order to keep the family unit intact, especially when they all live under the same roof.
Miss Ellie protested, Bobby protested, but it was always kinda half-hearted and there were never any serious consequences, apart from a fight in the pool or something like that.
In real life, these people would never speak to eachother ever again, but of course that wouldn't be very convenient for a soap saga.
On Paper Dolls, it makes Wesley look a little nicer and I'm glad they didn't simply copy the characters from the other shows.

Not sure what to think of Lloyd Bridges as Grant Harper. As the patriarch, he lacks the power and charisma that the others had, and he often reminds of a Disney creature, maybe one of the Seven Dwarfs.

Here are Racine (it's just Racine, without a last name) and her very pink assistant Sandy. Naturally, Jonathan Frakes had to be in it too.
    upload_2017-2-3_19-4-6.png
Sandy suggests that Racine should sign some model (forgot his name, Buck Torso or something) who's only done one porn movie.
They're cute together, like a "Karen & Jack".

A high-profile reporter, who happens to be the husband/boyfriend of Wesley Harper's sister's best female friend, reluctantly takes on an assignment to write about the Top Leader of the modelling industry, so he enters the lioness' den, hoping to get some useful information out of her.

"Would you rather I waited outside until you're decent?" "How much time do you have?"

Celebrities on Paper Dolls (episodes 4 & 5), instead of ficitional celebrities like CiJi and Dominique Deveraux, or the semi-fictional character Apollonia Kotero.
Taryn is in the studio for the try-out and clothes for the John Waite video. He was mentioned in the previous episode but I thought he was a fictional celebrity.
The scene starts with the song "Missing You" which I had never heard before, but the first lyrics are "Every Time I Think Of You" and I thought, is this going to be an 80s coverversion of the The Babys hit? Turns out it wasn't, and a few moments later John Waite walks into the studio.
He looked kinda skinny and I assumed they had chosen this particular actor to make him look like a mini-Mick Jagger, although he did look an awful lot like the singer of The Babys.
Taryn and Laurie are invited backstage at Waite's concert, and when he started to perform I realized that he had to be a real singer, and not just an actor playing a singer.
So I ImdB'd him and it turned out that my first impression was both wrong and right: the song wasn't a The Babys cover but it was a The Babys song (well, almost, since it's a solo release).

Taryn can't decide what to wear for the *rock* concert, and I couldn't help but laughing out loud when she showed up like this:
    upload_2017-2-4_19-17-34.png

There's a short scene between Blair and a basketball player, and I'm just going to assume that he's a real famous basketball player.
    upload_2017-2-4_19-21-25.png

Laurie continues to live her suburban life (Racine's favourite joke) and tries to convince her friends that the modelling is just for fun and money, and not as important as her friends.
The school scenes look very cheesy-vintage because it reminds me of all those not-so-great 80s highschool movies, but it doesn't really bother me.

I'm not going to point out Mimi Rogers' asymmetric face, because she already does it herself in her opening credit.
    upload_2017-2-4_19-33-56.png
Still, my attention is constantly drawn to her mouth.

Grant and Marjorie Harper also live in A Mansion, but unlike the other soaps it's not used as a "King's Court" where everything happens and where all and sundry walk in and out to make deals, promises, threats and whatnot. And this is another aspect that attributes to my impression of a Dynasty-lite.

The corporate struggle continues and Wesley and Racine start to plot how to put Wesley in charge of HWW. It's Racine who proves to be the mastermind because Wesley is too busy stamping his foot over all the injustice.
The show makes it all look very underhandy, but from Racine's point of view - her business being somewhat intertwined with HWW and probably other fashion houses too - it strikes me as normal business instinct that she wants to benefit from the situation. It's not like she's out to destroy anyone or, like JR Ewing, pleased at the thought that someone might suffer the consequences.
In that regard, she's definitely more "Abby" than "Alexis".

Sarah regretfully informs David that the hearing of the Wolfbridge Parnell case will be held in open court after all.
I'm sure none of us saw that one coming!
    upload_2017-2-4_20-46-0.png
I love those "to be continued" endings, and also the Art Deco font used for Paper Dolls.
