Do you experience the feeling? Are you looking for it and how do you get it?
What's your peace & quiet moment?

Living in the countryside certainly helps. Given all the aggro I get at work from my halfwit of a boss, it is essential that my evenings are as peaceful as possible.

I first read it when I was about 14 and I've loved Russian literature ever since.

I have gone on silent retreats. When I come back I often still have the feeling still with me.
Nature helps tremendously, even in small doses if I can't get a retreat.

That's been a big part of Sunday Morning on CBS, first w/Charles Kuralt, then all the way through Charles Osgood, to Jane Pauley now!

There's a place on the N. Irish coast I go to and the minute you get there it's like...switch off time. That's my peaceful place.

I've been to Ireland, which is a beautiful country, but not there. Now it's on my bucket list. I'm a sucker for natural beauty.

Thank you @Jimmy Todd - it really is beautiful and I guess I shouldn't take it for granted. Despite the problems we've had here, it has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, particularly on the North Antrim coast.

From Castlerock you can visit Downhill, Benone and take the world famous train route to Derry itself.

I was in Ireland for a week several years ago. It rained the day I got there and the day I left, but every day in between was sunny. Beautiful countryside, and I loved the people.:)

Regarding peace and quiet, does anyone feel people are talking more and more?
I mean non-stop? I'm in awe of how some people seem to talk for the sake of talking.

Aha, Castlerock seems like the perfect spot for me and my white trash family. Beer, crisps, screaming kids and portable stereo with very loud après-ski music.
    C-ya!

Kids often feel the need to "fill up the empty spaces" when there is a pause between conversations or some kind of silence. Some kids grow into adults who do the same thing. There is an old saying: "Never pass up an opportunity to remain silent."

Although we don't tolerate the loud music at 'The Rock', I do tend to act a bit white trash myself, not shaving or washing for a few days, barbecuing and finding sand in my cracks. All the while with a glass of classy wine and chips and dip, watching scary movies and frolicking on the beach :D

Yes @Jimmy Todd - we do get a lot of rain (hence the greeness in The Emerald Isle) but I do love the rain. Guess I'm just so used to it. Every time we have a hot day or it's sunny, people, specifically men, tend to do weird things like wearing shorts and sandals. All very uncouth behaviour.

A the risk of sounding like a New Age weirdo, I like to have at just 5 minutes a day (usually just before I go to bed) when I just like to be quiet with no distractions and I just focus on my heart beating and my breathing. It's a kind of meditation which helps me relax and is a chance to put any stresses and anxieties I have to one side to leave me momentarily more open to positive thoughts. The power of doing nothing really helps.
