    You gave season 1 a 4.5 out of 5 which equals a 90% rating.

Adding up the 5 seasons individually, you gave it 15.5 out of 20 which equals a 77.5% rating.

    So, which is season 1, a 77.5% or a 90%?

5 of the greatest episodes in the history of television, each the equivalent of a standout feature film in its own right!

and as ludicrous as some of those early self-contained episodes can be, there's always at least one or two good Dallas moments or at least lines... it's fun to see the characters feel things out before they've been firmly established.

And also, they're good fodder for forum screen names and silly entries in the ABC of Dallas thread!

I'm curious, had you not thought that "Fallen Idol" was ludicrous, do yo think you would have still chosen the same screen name, or did you you choose your screen name because you though Fallen Idol was ludicrous?

oh no, I thought Fallen Idol was one of the better early self-contained episodes - Guzzler was just a fun character and poor ill-fated Richard Kelton (who I think could have had a tremendous career with all that charisma) clearly was enjoying himself. I signed up here after lurking for a while to make silly posts on the ABC thread, inspired by the Swami's fantastic obscurely-worded characterizations of his least favorite characters, and I thought Guzzler was a fun choice for a screen name.

I find these episodes fascinating because my initial awareness of Dallas as a kid started maybe a couple of years after Jock's death through the Wes Parmalee storyline, so I find these early episodes to be almost like something from a different series altogether.

Kidnapped and especially Runaway were the ones that I'd call closer to 'ludicrous' mainly because of the silly villains. Why on earth would some young guy be driving across Texas in a conspicuous groovy green van committing armed robbery for petty cash in broad daylight over and over? That's ludicrous!

Agreed. The bad guys were didn't perform well in KIDNAPPED. In RUNAWAY, the actor wasn't too bad, and Lucy's stage presence was goofy. Yet she definitely grew professionally because of the episode, and grew the character into more than another less-strong actress would've done.

Yep, good ol' Willie Gust had a nice career after getting out of prison (a lenient Bobby decided not to press charges for kidnapping) with BJ and the Bear and later My Two Dads.

Another early-season self-contained-episode guest star with an interesting later career was the feisty young Rita Briggs (Talia Balsam), who went on to marry George Clooney and later John Slattery from Mad Men, where she played his long-suffering wife - kind of a less dramatic upper-class NYC Sue Ellen.

I've been enjoying your posts for some time. You always have something fun to add.

Want to hear something interesting? For a long time I thought you might be the son of Richard Kelton. I considered sending you a message on here to ask you about it.
