There's a Scorpion Mountain in Washington state, and another in Idaho. And there's a Scorpio Peak in Utah.

Krystle and Blake traveled to Scorpio Peak, which had the SkyCrest dude ranch there, where they rode up the path to near the summit before Blake was attacked by Nick Toscanni and was left hanging from a cliff as a storm gathered.

Blake had stated his desire to purchase Scorpio Peak, although he never mentioned it again.

I'd like to find out (two-thirds of the way thru Season 6, just before Alexis recommends both companies create a wildlife refuge out of a combined property) that Blake has finally obtained Scorpio Peak after 30 years of attempting it, the mountain having cast a shadow across his estate the entire time, the acquisition a symptom of the climax of the Carringtons' success.

And the modest and isolated Scorpio Cemetery in the foothills at the far side of Scorpio Peak, where all itinerant characters -- like Roger Grimes -- eventually take their rest.

I imagine it's part of a Stephen King-esque village called Scorpio Rising.

Sort of, but not one called that.

More like "Helen". Sounds so benign, doesn't it?

Should the nazi treasure have been buried underneath SkyCrest? And who's the mysterious (and unwanted) inhabitant? Cecil Colby? A terribly scarred Lindsay Blaisdel?
Should the wildlife refuge be part of the gubernational campaign - Alexis pointing out in a public debate that one single man should never own all that beautiful nature, unaware of the can of worms she's about to open?

Maybe they should do one of those fake memory scenes.
Blake to Fallon: Remember, darling, when you used to give me your birthday wishlists, and Scorpio Peak was always on top of those lists?
Fallon (with an Emma Samms accent): Yes, I guess I took that "anything" too literally (laughs). Then, with a pensive intonation, yet again hinting at her bizarre subconsciousness that original Fallon never had) "but there was always something about it..."

Well as this is the Scorpio Peak thread I guess I really oughta throw in this promo/teaser I did a while back. Not a spin-off as someone suggested (as tantalizing an idea as that is...), although it is the location for the final segment of Dynasty 69 Trailer 4. But really I just put Joan and the background together cause I liked the aesthetic and then thought, actually this would make quite a nice promo for a 60's fantasy one-off Dynasty movie. Maybe like a murder mystery set at the lodge/hotel there or something.

How funny, because I've just started watching Dark Shadows the movie.
The train intro with the Moody Blues soundtrack was great, but that was probably the best part of the movie.

Sky Crest dude ranch, in its brief appearance in the second season finale, appears to me as a vastly more interesting property than the Delta Rho farm introduced in season five. Perhaps the Daniel Reece character (not necessarily played by the ailing Rock Hudson) could have been the new owner of Sky Crest instead of Delta Rho, an additional reason for Blake to dislike him.

Season 2 production values successfully depict the ranch as a sprawling, breathtaking property brimming with activity — abundant extras playing the mountain resort staff and the guests, long stables with horses, cottages and even a busy swimming pool in Krystle's background.

Sadly, season 3 places Krystle into a Ranger's HQ cottage for her sedate opening scene and later in what might or might not be her own cottage at Sky Crest. But, Sky Crest as we had seen it in 2x22 is nowhere to be seen again. I wish we had actually seen Blake and Krystle enjoying a cup of that hot buttered rum he was talking about in an impressive hotel lounge with high windows and a crackling fireplace, right after their ordeal.

By the way, I noticed there is also a River Stone trail crossing the Scorpio Peek trail that Blake ended up on. Such details only add to the realism of it.

Subjectively, I always picture the mansion facing southeast (or SSE --- while Filoli actually faces NE) with Denver to its right down below, and Scorpio Peak somehow to the left... Just why, I'm not sure.

I do have to note, while watching the scenes from 2x22 and 3x01 today I could really see it. Whatever happened behind the scenes in the summer of 1982, it's there the second Krystle opens her mouth in the season opener — she sounds so stilted and fake. She's not even looking at the ranger when she talks to him.

Whereas only in 2x22, in her leisurely scenes at the ranch with Blake and later asking Toscanni, with worry in her voice, if he'd managed to find Blake — she's so natural and believable.

There were some nice touches in 3x01 — Alexis talking to Cecil through that hole was a hoot and I loved the ominous music while the wind covers Blake's lifeless body in filth — but there's an undeniable jarring shift in the overall tone.

Maybe there's a metaphor in there. Scorpio Peak's attempted murder of the show that resulted in severe crippling instead.

Isn't it amazing? I sat there dumbfounded with that first episode of S3. And we never really got her back.

Blake's "I must get home...!" at the hospital is almost as bad. As is Fallon's confronting the nurse in the library.

SAD has arrived. And isn't wonderful? Doesn't it make them seem so classy?
Or perhaps the metaphor is that the show's Scorpio (Krystle) had reached her peak. And everything else was downhill.
