You did a perfect job with how they both reflected on the great times and small things in their relationship. And I loved how Ray knew just how ridiculous the idea of a marriage to Jenna and life in another country (I don't think there was cattle or ranching in Europe! What was Ray supposed to do!?) was.

Donna came home with Ray that afternoon. They sat on the couch together while Donna worked on her speech for the next day. Ray smiled as he watched her, the late afternoon sun streaking across her face.

She caught him staring out of the corner of her eye. “Why are you looking at me that way?”

“No reason.” He quickly changed the subject. “It was nice of Dave to buy lunch, but I’m kind of glad he didn’t come back here with us,” Ray mused.

Donna smiled. “Is that so?” She crossed out something she’d just written.

“Yeah…I kind of like having you all to myself.”

She sat down her notepad and looked him in the eyes. “I think you should kiss me again.”

“Yes ma’am.” He put his arms around her and their mouths came together. She could feel the renewed heat between them, but it still frightened her. Her fingers found the buttons of his shirt, and her hands found his chest. She slid it over his shoulders as he began to kiss her neck.

“Wait a minute,” he stopped suddenly. “Maybe we should wait. Somehow I don’t think either of us is ready.”

“I would like to be with you…but you’re right, neither of us is ready.”

He nodded as she helped him put his shirt back on. “Besides, what would Miss Ellie say if we missed dinner?” she asked.

He laughed. “That’s four hours away.”

    “And your point?” she replied.

“You win again.” He kissed her and then she sat, reclined with her legs over his, as she threw speech ideas at him until dinnertime.

    ***

Finally the day of the big oil meeting came. Ray and Donna had shared the same bed the night before, but they still hadn’t made love yet. Donna had begun to move her things back to the brick house. She and Ray had reaffirmed their love for one another, and the talks they had had over the past few days showed that they were in a new, more honest place, and that their love was strong. The day before they rode out on the range together in his truck, and they talked about their future next to the same warped tree where they’d camped before, where they’d spent countless weekends together wrapped up in passion. They talked about what their lives were going to be like in the coming months and years as they adjusted to being parents. He held her in his arms as they talked of the dreams they had for their child—Ray wanted a champion rodeo rider, Donna wanted a best-selling authoress and politician—and the nursery they were going remodel in their house.

Donna stood in front of the mirror, making sure she looked okay. Ray sat on the edge of the bed and stared at her.

She stared back at him in the mirror. “What are you looking at?”

“The most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

“Remember her when I’m eight months pregnant and can’t get out of bed.”

“I’ve always dreamed of keeping you in bed all day.” He gave her a playful grin.

She turned to glare at him as she put on her earrings. “Down, cowboy.” She winked. “I think I’m ready.”

    “Do you have your speech?”

    “It’s in my head.”

    He kissed her. “Good luck.”

“Thank you,” she said as she pulled him close to her. “But now that I’ve got you, I don’t need it.” She grabbed his hand and they walked toward the door together.

Brilliant and very romantic update

There are so many parts that I like, but I'll just emphasize this part:
    "I think you should kiss me again" ... ... ... "Yes ma'am!"
    You're a great writer! :spinning:

Worried about missing dinner four hours away? :giggle: Just priceless writing! :giggle: When they do make it to the "love shack", then ... ... hmmm ... ... How should I put it? There will be fireworks bigger than the 4th of July???

For a split second, I thought that the phrase, "I think I'm ready" meant something quite different! :D

Please update soon! :) I really like this fan fic about Ray and Donna! :10::10::10:

Cute update. I am glad that she's moving back into the house and that they are back to kissing and sharing a bed. Also cute how they are both so excited about the baby now. :)

A good start for them to fix things things. And I can tell that Ray is happy about the baby. Glad that Bobby is back with Pam. This will erase all of Bobby's post-Pam woman-hopping. As long as she's careful while she is driving, that is.

Ray held Donna’s hand all during the reception. Everyone there seemed to want to meet with her, to hear her ideas. Ray admitted to himself that he didn’t understand half the things they were talking about, but seeing Donna’s face light up as she moved from person to person, sharing opinions and jokes with them, was enough for him. Finally it came time for her speech.

“Will you stand by me while I speak?” Donna asked him as they sat together.

    “I will.” He replied.

And when she stepped on stage to speak, Ray was by her side, smiling the whole time. When it was over, he was the first one to applaud for her, and the last one to stop. As he led her offstage, she whispered “thank you” in his ear, and as they made their way to their seats, he said “I love you and I’m proud of you” to her.

The post-meeting reception was a bit more relaxed. Ray went to talk with Clayton and Miss Ellie, who had snuck in the back to see Donna’s speech, and she went off with Dave to talk politics with some old friends.

In the corner of the room, she saw Paul Morgan—Paul, who had professed his feelings for her and had saved Ray from prison. She smiled and walked over to him.

    “Donna.”

    “Paul.” She shook his hand.

“You were amazing up there. Texas could really use a woman like you on the Hill.”

“Thanks, I appreciate that. But Ray and I are happy together, and we’re having a baby. I think I’ve found my place for now.”

“You sure? I think you’re making a big mistake.”

She smiled at him. “Paul, maybe someday, but right now I can’t imagine myself doing anything like that. I need to be with Ray. When the time comes, he’ll understand. Maybe when our baby is older I can do that—but right now I don’t want to be away from home.” She looked him up and down, turned on her heel, and went back to find Dave. He smiled after her…he knew Ray was one lucky man.

    ***

Ray turned off the ignition and they walked toward the house.

“I hope Dave wasn’t upset that you decided to leave.”

“No, he said I’d done more than enough. And he knew I needed to get some rest. My feet are killing me.” They stopped while Ray unlocked the door.

“Let me take care of that.” She gasped as he picked her up. “I think I should carry my bride over the threshold.”

“Good idea.” She kissed him. “And Ray?”

“Yes?” he asked as she closed the door behind him.

“I told Miss Ellie we wouldn’t be at dinner tonight.” They grinned at each other.

He carried her into the bedroom and sat her down on the end of the bed. He pulled off his boots and then pulled off her heels. The time had come.

They stood, facing each other, the moment punctuated only by their breathing. They needed no words to show how they felt. She began to unbutton his shirt, slowly, pushing it to the floor. She caressed his tanned shoulders as their mouths came together in a kiss. She finished undressing him, and he shivered as her fingers brushed against his muscular frame. He began to unzip her dress, and she laughed as he slowly slid it over her shoulders and to the floor. He picked her up again and placed her gently on the bed. He climbed in between her legs and their mouths came together in another passionate kiss. She nibbled on his lip as his calloused hands worked their way down her back. He pulled back from their kiss and began to move down to her neck. He rediscovered her body with his mouth, tracing the curves of her figure with his tongue. She ran her hands smoothly through his hair as he began his exploration, reawakening both their bodies. He paused for a moment at her stomach, and placed a kiss there over the child growing inside. He pulled back evenly with her and she pulled him close as he slipped swiftly inside of her. He began to stroke himself slowly in and out of her, their flesh melding together as they became one again. He slowed his cadence and they were able to whisper words of love for one another before speeding their pace. She slid her hands down his back, over his taut muscles, as his final thrust brought forth their explosive climax. They kissed again, the heat still smoldering between them as they lay together. A few minutes later she kissed his shoulder as she balanced herself on his chest.

“I love you,” she said. “I want to spend the rest of my life here with you.”

“I love you, too.” He brushed a strand of hair off her forehead. “And you look beautiful.”

She pushed him back onto the pillow. “Tell me that again,” she smiled.

He laughed. “You look beauti…” Her mouth covered his before he could finish.

    Amazing update :spinning::spinning::spinning:
I loved every little part of it! :) In particular this phrase: "The time had come.":kiss::kiss:
You did an amazing job describing their "first time" together since their separation! It was just simply beautiful!:kiss::kiss:

I just hope that this is not the end of your "short" fan fic! I really hope that you'll continue to write more about Ray and Donna and their life together!

I liked Donna's brief meeting with Paul Morgan and how she reflected over that he liked her and that she'd rather be with Ray. It was good that Ray stood by her side at the politics meeting and I am glad that they've worked things out and that she won't be heading off to the hill. :)
It's the way it should have been on the show.

I'm already in mourning over this news! :( I'd hoped that you'd continue your amazing fan fic - at least until after the birth of their baby - so that we'd know how Ray and Donna would cope as first time parents! :(

Any chance that you'll reconsider? ;)

I can't do that because, well, the story was finished in 2008 and to add anything else wouldn't be in keeping with the original intention of the project. However, I have revamped another story idea from 2008 which I hope to post here sooner rather than later :)

Short update now because there are only two left! :eck:

    ***

The next morning, Ray couldn’t take his eyes off of Donna. They lay together in bed, the sun streaking through the curtains, its rays dancing across the room. A new day was dawning over the ranch, and over their lives. Just as they had moved as one the night before, they would now move together into the next phase of their lives. He kissed her eyes, knowing that she must be dreaming about the future, about the life they were building together. Each day would be different than the one before, would bring with it a new set of challenges, but he knew this time they would be ready for anything.

She stirred and as her eyes opened they found his. “Good morning, Mr. Krebbs.”

He smiled. “I love watching you sleep.” She placed her arms around his neck.

“We should do something together today—would you take the day off for me?”

He laughed. “For you, I might take off every day from now on.” She brought her mouth to his as he softly smoothed his hand over the length of her body.

She stared back at him as the kiss broke off. “There aren’t any guarantees in life—you and I both know that. But I wanna make it work with you more than anything.”

A tear glistened in his eye. “I prayed. I prayed to God that we would work it out and you'd come back to me.”

She smiled. “I prayed for the same thing. That I would have the strength to be a good mother and that you and I would find each other again.” They kissed again and he held her close as they lay there, the day seemingly made just for them.

I love how Ray is being so thoughtful and agreeable here. I always hated how he got all bent out of shape about Donna having that oil in season 8 (dvd). It just seemed stupid that they went back to their age-old problems about their lifestyles then when I had thought that they had finally moved past all of that.

    Final update...or is it? ;)

    ***

It was another hot and dry day on the ranch, but the azure sky was cloudless and gave everyone hope for the ceremony.

The family gathered along the aisle and watched as the wedding march began, while Bobby stood with the minister. At last, the music reached its crescendo, and Pam emerged in her white gown, escorted by Cliff. He wiped away a tear as he gave her hand to Bobby, and everyone took their seats.

As the minister went through his vows, Ray held Donna’s left hand in his own. As Bobby and Pam said their vows, Donna pulled a gold band from her pocket. She looked into Ray’s eyes as she slid it on his finger. He mouthed “I do” and they smiled at each other. He took her right hand in his own this time, and placed his other hand on her stomach, where he could feel the new life moving inside—the new life they had created. Things wouldn’t always be easy in the future, they both understood, but as long as they loved each other there was nothing more important than building a life together.

The minister spoke. “The bride and groom requested that I read a passage from chapter 13, in the First Book of Corinthians.

“Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude.

Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered.

It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do.

Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.

Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful and trusting.

    Love never fails.”

As the minister pronounced another couple husband and wife for a second time, Ray and Donna also kissed, reaffirming their dedication to each other. He held her close to him as they stood to applaud the newlyweds. On that day, everyone was given a second chance. Ray thought back to his dream and knew he had to make the most of his. Donna smiled at him, knowing she already had. On the dance floor later, they held each other just a little closer than any other couple. Ray smiled as he felt Donna’s hair on the side of his face, her head on his shoulder. He hadn’t told her about his dream, and he never would. The reality, he thought, was far better than anything he could create in his mind.

Aww such a happy ending to your story. I love how you wrapped it up with that both couples got their second chances. :)
Also great that we got to see Bobby & Pam's wedding from Donna & Ray's POV as guests. That was a lovely surprise. :)

I love the text from the bible too, that passage is really beautiful.

Over all you've done a great job with this story. :)

    So is there a epilogue?

Indeed there is an epilogue! You can't very well mention Aunt Lil and not have her show up...:)

    ***

    Kansas—One Year Later

They’d had to put off their trip to Kansas for a while—Donna’s pregnancy and a new book had meant plenty of time at home. Ray had taken on a second foreman at Southfork, which meant he had more time to spend with those who mattered most to him. They were more in love than ever, and Ray adored their baby. Donna could spend hours watching them, just enjoying each other. The two of them had built a wonderful life together, and were now ready to travel with their new addition. As they drove down the street where Aunt Lil lived, they held hands and smiled while the summer breeze blew throughout the car. When they parked Aunt Lil walked from the porch, waving at them.

“Raymond, Donna! It’s so good to see you!” Donna handed the baby to Ray as they walked toward her. “Oh, he looks so beautiful.”

Ray smiled. “Well, we like him.”

“I think he’s got your eyes, Raymond.”

Donna nodded. “And his forehead.” She gave Ray a sly wink.

“Donna, you look so beautiful too.” She and Aunt Lil hugged.

“Thank you, but if you’d seen me a few months ago you’d think I wasn’t the same person.”

Ray laughed. “She’s just kidding you, Aunt Lil. Pregnancy really agreed with her.”

Donna smiled at him. “Why don’t the two of you come in the house?” Aunt Lil asked. “I’ll show you to your room and I’ve even got a crib for the baby.”

They held hands and followed her up the walk.

“Lil, your grass looks a little on the tall side.”

    ***

“You’ve got a girl in your room, Mr. Krebbs. What would your mother say?” Donna whispered to him.

Ray laughed. “I think she’d say I made a fine choice.”

The baby asleep in the next room, they lay face to face on the bed. Donna pulled him into a kiss and smoothed her hand down his bare chest. She pulled back and her hands trailed their way down his body, helping him out of his jeans. She used her fingertips to bring him to arousal before he laid her back on the bed, helping to remove her nightshirt in the process.

His tongue traced the line around her cheekbone and his mouth worked a path down her neck as he placed kisses on her chest. She massaged her hands through his hair as his tongue flicked around her nipples, bringing them to life. He slid his hands down the sides of her body, parting her hips and wrapping her legs around him as he slid inside her depths. Their mouths came together eagerly as their hips began to move in a rhythm. She pulled him closer with every part of her as he worked his way deeper and deeper within her, their bodies locked together in heat as he slipped his tongue inside her mouth. They sped their movements, each moment intensified as one final series of thrusts brought a surge from deep within both of them.

They lay together afterward, the moonlight casting shadows across their bed.

"How was it, cowboy?" she asked knowingly.

He looked into her eyes and smiled. "Like a dream come true."
