It certainly is very plain. I wonder if part of that was the budget. I nevertheless find myself thinking of the plainness as their 'look' and finding it charming.

Funny that the robe is mentioned, because I just saw that (or at least, one of the times he did it).

And the speedos... the speedos!!! :lmao:

And that's without getting to John. We'd be here all day!

The quintessential Aussie Soap. I'm surprised Channel 7 have never thought of resurrecting Sons & Daughters, though it would be difficult without one actress playing a certain character. I'll leave it at that.

Rowena Wallace rocked that role. Always enjoyed watching her scenes, especially when she was on the cusp of loosing it. Sons & Daughters never had the budget like American night-time soaps but it more than made up for it in character/plot driven story. Was it over the top? Absolutely. But that was the joy of watching it. Pound for pound. Pat the Rat easily would pulp Alexis Carrington.

Revival / reboot fever thankfully hasn't grabbed Aussie TV in the same way as it has in the US or UK in recent years. Aside from Wentworth and the axed remake of Return to Eden, they've pretty much left their classic soapies alone. Which is more to do with the downturn in soap production than anything else. If they were still churning out soaps at the rate they were in the 80's / 90's, I'd say we'd have definitely seen Sons & Daughters and Number 96 reboots by now. The S&D format is a great one which has been remade multiple times in Europe (I believe some of them are still on air). Granada in the UK borrowed heavily from it's format too when they made Families in the early 90's.

Would have been great if Sons & Daughters and Dallas did a crossover. Imagine the chaos if Pat The Rat landed in Dallas.

Well I have done 13 episodes. It really is addictive, it's like crack. John Palmer is just a treat for the eyes isn't he? And his aversion to clothing makes him all the more appealing. Right now I am also loving Aunty Fiona. She's clearly got a past that is going to come trotting out soon. I mean where does she get her money, how does she own a boarding house? Why does she dress like a brothel owner? The Hamiltons are also a bit fabulous, they are a bit Carrington on a budget aren't they?

I have to say it's better than I expected it to be. I do remember this being on during the day when I was off school and I'd watch when it was on. I thought the sets and the dialogue would be wobblier, but I have been pleasantly surprised. The Aussie soaps are great because you recognise so many actors from other shows, it's like a huge repertory company.

I think I am going to stick at this one. So far it just keeps giving, the pacing is very quick for a daytime soap and they keep giving you the one two punch. It doesn't drag and become frustrating, well not yet anyways.

Anyways I'm off to watch more.... all those gorgeous Aussie boys in speedos for NO reason.

I just noticed the Set Dresser was named Gordon Brown so you may be on to something there.

What is weird about the slight editing of the episodes is that they left in the recap at the beginning which I could have done without rather than losing a chunk of new footage.
Anyways... I LOVE Sons and Daughters. I just knew Fiona was an old prossie! It's brilliant soap! I'm up to episode 17 now. :)

Michael Hutchence's mother is mentioned in the closing credits too. She was the makeup artist.

Fiona and Patricia talking about John/Scott being Patricia's long lost son.

Fiona, "You always did have the maternal instinct"

Patricia, "I didn't care about him 20 years ago, I don't give a damn now"

Did Pat the Rat just out-bitch Alexis?

I just love how they all drink gallons of tea and beer in equal proportions. Even at work everyone just cracks open a beer. Sitting around the house having a beer or a tea depending on how stressed you are.

Fiona's backstory is fascinating. It almost rivals Jacqueline Perrault's.

I swear, Patricia spends half her time making or receiving SHOCKING calls!

It's all just so exciting! I love that Fiona is in Melbourne snooping and doing tarot cards with Bill's mum. I think Fiona is my favourite character, I swear...

Fiona really is terrific. I loved her going to Melbourne and playing everyone like a fiddle.

Up to Episode 33. After a stretch of more lowkey episodes mostly dealing with Kevin and Lynn's pregnancy, 33 was a lot of fun. Patricia calls David, having decided to get to know John after all. John hesitantly agrees to try. Too bad Pat's only doing it to have access to Angela and David! She really manipulates the situation perfectly. None of this is expressly stated but the show credits the audience with being smart enough to know what her real motivations are.

Oh, and a man calls for Fiona using her previous last name. Someone right out of her backstory or something new? I have a feeling this will be exciting...

I have succumbed, just started tonight and I'm up to episode 7. So far so good. Does anyone know if Fiona's dentures get their own spin off at some point?
