They really are something to behold aren't they? But if Fiona's dentures get their own spin off then I demand one for Beryl's perm too! It's only fair they both steal every scene they are in.

Man, this show is wild! First, Wayne plays with Jill's kitty, and then falls in love with her. He's been conning his father, so you know he'll lose Jill and his relationship with Gordon will be destroyed. But one doesn't quite expect Wayne to be punished by having his back broken!

Meanwhile, John and Angela are playing out a love story with each other -- and they're twins!

They could both be in the spin off. 'Perms and Dentures'. They could use the same theme song with just a very minor alteration.

Funniest moment of the series so far:

Fiona: "Well now, what are your plans?"
John: "The first thing I want to do is ring Patricia."
    Fiona: "Hamilton?"

    :crazy::lmao:

Well, now, Fiona, don't judge him too harshly. After all, he just got done telling you he's in love with his sister.

What's the deal with all the phone calls that start with that weird beeping noise? I don't know what that is? I thought it was like a reverse charges thing but it's not. Is it to let you know it's a long distance call? Was that a thing in the 1980s? Or is it just an Australian thing? It's really bugging me.

    Fiona to Jill...

"You never guessed I'd been on the game did you?"

    Me screaming at the screen!

"From the moment I clocked eyes on you!"

Get used to it cos it ain't going away. Charmingly, they're called STD calls. It's how the characters in Melbourne communicate with the ones in Sydney.

That's something I've been wondering about actually. How is it going to work logistically having a soap where the two main families live in two different cities? It seems like it's going to limit the interactions between two halves of the cast without someone making a 12 hour drive or a flight.

I found the flying back and forth weird at first and bit silly then I remember how huge Australia is and that really that's the easiest and quickest way to get from A to B. Like when I take a taxi anywhere in Belfast and I am at my destination in about 7 minutes. When I take a taxi in London and no matter my destination it takes 30 minutes at least. lol

I guess that's why they made David a cross country trucker.

It actually works really well cos it breaks up the cast into constantly shifting groups, so there's always that tension of "What's gonna happen when Patricia turns up from Sydney?" or "What's gonna happen when David gets back from Melbourne?" And God knows, they've got so many episodes to fill, there's always time for Beryl to pack or unpack David's underpants.

They actually introduce a third location, a neutral territory of sorts, for the characters to congregate. I'm not sure you've gotten to that yet.

As mad and farfetched as the constant travel between cities seems, it was actually a pretty clever solution to a problem that Australian networks had. At the time, there was a perception that Sydney based shows never rated well in Melbourne and vice versa. So having a show set in both cities meant the network were on to a winner in both major TV markets.

On the other hand, Families, the Sons & Daughters "inspired" daytime soap on British TV, took it to the extreme when they had one family based in England and the other family in Australia. Because of the obvious limitations, that angle ran it's course within the first two years and then the action was shifted permanently to England only.

I really hate her. I keep wanting Angela to ruin her life or something.

Yes, or Bill escapes for long enough to brutally murder her.

Angela looks so sexy soap vixen but then she's just not that. I think she should start wearing big hats and murder people. Bill cant escape now as he's told Susan not to visit him again. That's the Sons and Daughters version of people in Neighbours moving to Brisbane.

Her livingroom/house set makes me ill. I mean... There was a storyline about it actually being repainted. Why does it look like they repainted it by smearing shit all over the walls? Weird dirty blue shit. And why didn't they paint the stinking woodwork? The anxiety.

Yeah, there's a lot of Susan and it goes on for ages and all at that nails-down-a-blackboard frequency. She is eventually recast, if that's any consolation.

I love how Beryl seems to totally understand John and Angela's incestuous love drama. She's not even weirded out or all that annoyed, she's just like, "Poor kids, they love each-other and I sympathise because I have a bubble perm and wear dresses Miss Ellie would find hideous and love making Pavlova... I get it" I love you really Beryl.

Is she in 971 episodes before she gets a new head?
