In her party conference speech this week, Teresa May had the audacity to call Labour the nasty party after she and her colleagues spent the previous few days doing nothing but attack immigrants and blame them for just about everything. Her Home Secretary announced a policy forcing firms to list their foreign workers which is uncomfortably reminiscent of Nazis recording the activities of Jewish people. While the English newspapers continue to fawn over our new Prime Minister, in Scotland they have got her measure:

Since the referendum about leaving the EU was called, Britain has become a more intolerant and nasty place, particularly for foreigners, and Teresa May rather than trying to deal with the problem, she instead is trying to tap into it as a potential source of more Tory voters.

Teresa May truly is the face of the Nasty Party.

I am 100% hoping Labour wins next election. I truely dislike the right-wing winds that are sweeping over Europe & USA. It's disgusting, people thinking they are better than victims of war or other religions. And pretty much only because they were LUCKY to be born in a safer & richer country. It's just like elitists looking down on the middle class. Or city people looking down on people from the country-side.

I totally agree. Xeophobia is on the rise in the UK and our Prime Minister should be taking steps to tackle its rise but instead she is contributing to it for political gain. Even the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance reported that Xenophobia in the UK has been stoked by "considerable intolerant political discourse focusing on immigration and contributing to an increase in xenophobic sentiment" and "it is no coincidence that racist violence is on the rise in the UK".

Human rights report warns over 'anti-foreigner sentiment'

An example of Teresa May's lies to demonise foreign nationals living in the UK was in her speech this week to the Tory Party Conference. She said:

"I know a lot of people don't like to admit this - [for] someone who finds themselves out of work or on lower wages because of low-skilled immigration, life simply doesn't seem fair."

Her implication is that immigrants are taking jobs from British workers but this is just part of the lies, distortions and misinformation that people on the right wing of politics are using to further their xenophobic agenda. The truth of the matter is that a report has shown there is no evidence that immigration has any affect on the ability of native born Britons to find work and in fact employment among UK nationals is close to record levels. The report was produced by the UK Home Office when Teresa May was in charge of that department so she is deliberately lying to us to fan the flames of xenophobia. No wonder why the papers are calling her "Disgusting, Xenophobic, Repellent".

The world really is going in a very frightening direction at the minute. It's different from when there have been wars and things in the past. It feels like a broad general sweep of ignorance and intolerance and hate. It feels like something that couldn't and shouldn't happen in this day and age, with so much instant access to what is happening all over the world.

Xenophobia is the easiest way for a government to control it's people. Make them afraid of everything and you have them in the palm of your hand.
It's all about control. So many people go along with it without questioning it.

I don't know what it's like in other countries but in the UK our Conservative government likes to blame immigrants and those meddling foreigners in the EU for it's own failings. For example, immigration into the UK has risen since the conservatives came to power and they are blaming the EU free movement but immigration from outside the EU has gone up faster than it has for many years.

House prices are soaring in the UK and this has being blamed on immigrants reducing the available supply but the truth is that our right wing government has built fewer houses than previous governments. They are blaming immigrants for driving down wages by undercutting native Britons but it was David Cameron who kept the minimum wage to a low level and it still remains significantly below the level where people can have a decent standard of living. Waiting lists in the NHS are soaring and our right-wing government is blaming "health tourists" and immigrants flooding the services but this is just a deflection from their government cuts in funding the health care. School class sizes are rising and our Conservative government are blaming immigrants for taking school places rather than their cuts to the education budgets (cuts incidentally they made to fund tax cuts for the rich).

Whatever the failing of our Conservative government they will blame immigrants. Is it any surprise that xenophobic attacks are soaring in the UK?

That's exactly it... They have a scapegoat in immigrants they can just blame everything that they have done on immigrants and the stupid just believe them. The Conservative government only benefits a tiny minority but people are too stupid to see that.

It's deeply disgusting to see and hear politicians lie to further their agenda. Considering it's easy to pull out facts (the truth), I think media is horribly standing by and letting things happen. What happened to critically challenging questionable things politicians say?

The nasty xenophobic UK Conservative government strikes again. This time Teresa May and her colleagues have banned foreign born academics at The London School of Economics from advising the Foreign Office on Brexit. I guess the message she is trying to give is that if you're not British, you can't be trusted to be professional. Is it any wonder that xenophobia is on the rise in the UK?

My dislike for what Teresa May is doing has intensified. Her latest contemptible act is to suck up to the bigoted sex pest neo-fascist in the White House by suggesting that the NHS services could be sold off to American companies as part of huge US trade deal. This wicked government will use any situation to push their extreme right wing agenda to undermine our public services.

There's no stopping to evil that Teresa May and her wicked government are intending to inflict on our country. Their latest plan is to take back an additional £384 million from school budgets that are already chronically underfunded. Headteachers have said the plan is "outrageous" when schools already could not "make ends meet". It's not like we don't have the money: that's approximately the amount the Brexit campaign said was available every week if we left the EU and Teresa May seems to find no difficulty in finding money to cut corporation tax for businesses, many of whom fund (or is it bribe?) her nasty party.

An article regarding their meeting today refers to Trump & May as "The Odd Couple", but they're more two peas in a pod, aren't they?

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/27/world/europe/theresa-may-trump.html

By the way, it says May opposed the Brexit, but must carry it out now. Is that true? I didn't really follow the UK as much as the US last year.

There was an analysis in New York Times in December about the extent to which individual European countries have been affected by the right-wing winds, which seemed pretty much on the mark to me. For instance, I wasn't surprised by the excessive amount of red in Hungary.

I think it's been too long since the horrors of WWII and people who were around at the time and witnessed the sentiment that lead to that abhorrent catastrophe are dying off, no longer being able to caution today's generations for whom Hitler and the Nazis are just some kind of an abstract concept from history books.

Teresa May is weathercock, changing direction depending on which way the wind is blowing. During the US Presidential election campaign she spoke out against Trump's islamophobic rhetoric and she has also spoken against torture in the past. Now she is fawning all over him and trying to align herself with his policies of hate. During the Brexit campaign she kept a low profile but did say she was in favour of leave, now not only has she embraced Brexit, she is in such a hurry she wanted to do it illegally until a voter took her to court and won.

The only good thing I can say about this horrible woman is that at least she isn't as bad and useless as her predecessor David Cameron who I consider to be the worst Prime Minister in my lifetime, if not of all time.

Thanks for the link. What is deeply depressing these days, 2 years after the latest election where the 4 center-right parties swore they would never talk to the Sweden Democrats (SD), two of these parties are now considering working with SD to take down the current Social Democrat & Green Party government.

What happened in these 2 years? Well, they changed party leaders after losing the 2014 election back to the left-centers. They have in 2 year taken a step further out to the right. It's the Moderates and the Christian Democrats. Both taking a big step further to the right. Still swearing that they are not racist, but they are willing to work together with the one racist party, SD, who also refuse to admit that they are racists.... but come on!! You are fooling absolutely no one! When you one biggest agenda is to cut immigration from only certain countries, it's obvious what your are!

The other 2 center-right parties in the so-called "Alliance" have so far not taken a step to the right, and oppose ever working with SD. Good for them! I hope they stick to that!!!!!! The Center and The Liberals are center-right parties in Sweden, but more to the center than The Moderates & The Christian Democrats.

There are 8 parties over 4% of the votes in Sweden. 4% is the limit to get seats in the Riksdag (the national legislature). One party doesn't need 50% of all votes to form a government, cause no party gets those high numbers anymore. You need enough so that the others won't join together with added more % than yours to form a joint government instead. The Social Democrats (31,01%) and the Green Party (6,89%) has formed the current government. They (The Red-Greens) got more votes than the 4 Alliance parties. SD got 12,86%.

Our parties, and their ideologies + how many % they got last election:

The Left Party (Democratic Socialism) 5,72%
The Social Democrats (Democratic Socialism) 31,01%
The Green Party (Green Politics) 6,89%
The Centre Party (Green Liberalism) 6,11%
    The Liberals (Liberalism) 5,42%
The Moderate Party (Liberal Conservatism) 23,33%
The Christian Party (Christian Conservatism) 4,57%
The Sweden Democrats (National Conservatism) 12,86%

The Feminist Initiative Party (Left party focusing on feminism & anti-racism) had a big break-through in 2014, and was almost voted in, ending on 3,12% of the votes.

As you can see, Liberalism is a bit more to the right than the center in Sweden. This is why I would never call myself a Liberal.
    Never ever.
I am more to the left than that! I'm a Democratic Socialist. [IMG]

Angela Merkel today responded to President Trump's ban on Muslims from 7 countries entering the USA by saying:
"The necessary and decisive fight against terrorism in no way justifies a general suspicion against people of certain beliefs, in this case people of the Muslim faith or from a certain origin ...These actions, according to my beliefs, are against the core idea of international aid for refugees and international cooperation."

A spokesman for Merkel earlier said that the Chancellor had called Trump on Saturday and told him
"The necessary and decisive fight against terrorism does not justify a general suspicion against people of a certain belief, in this case people of Muslim belief or people from a certain country.”

    Theresa May's response:
"The United States is responsible for the United States’ policy on refugees, the United Kingdom is responsible for the United Kingdom’s policy on refugees."

Theresa May would be wise to note the words of Desmond Tutu:
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality."

The National newspaper was right about her:

The policies of Teresa May and her nasty party may have killed 30,000 British people.

A major study by academics warned cuts to health and social care budgets to fund tax cuts for corporations and rich people, some of which bankroll her party, were "possibly" to blame for the "unprecedented" 30,000 extra deaths in England and Wales.

In Teresa May's uncaring vision for Britain, if you have a mental disability you don't deserve support from the state but if you are a millionaire you deserve a tax cut.

Two tribunals have ruled that the government has acted unlawfully in denying personal independence payments for people with psychological problems, estimated to be 160,000 individuals. Instead of accepting the ruling, she has chosen to change the law to ensure that these vulnerable people don't get the payments they need to have a more decent life.
