Despite its name, the Seven Kingdoms is a realm divided into 9 administrative regions or provinces:
    1. The Crownlands (King's Landing, Dragonstone etc)
    2. Dorne
    3. The Iron Islands
    4. The North
    5. The Reach
    6. The Riverlands
    7. The Stormlands
    8. The Vale of Arryn
    9. The Westerlands

The 7 Kingdoms of Westeros are:

    1. Kingdom of The North - where Winterfell, Bear Island & The Wall are located. Houses Stark, Mormont, Karstark, Umber, Bolton, Forrester & Glover etc.
    2. Kingdom of the Mountain and The Vale - where The Eyrie is located. House Arryn is the biggest.
    3. Kingdom of The Isles and The Rivers (Riverlands) - where Harrenhal and Riverrun are located. Houses Tully and Frey etc.
    4. The Kingdom of The Stormlands - the island of Tarth is located there as well as Storm's End. Houses Baratheon, Tarth and Selmy etc.
    5. The Kingdom of The Rock (The Westerlands) - Casterly Rock lies there as well as Lannisport and Castamere. Houses Lannister and Clegane.
    6. The Reach - Highgarden, Horn Hill and Oldtown are located there. Houses Tyrell, Tarly and Gardener etc.
    7. The Principality of Dorne - Dorne was the only kingdom to retain its independence during Aegon’s conquest and later joined the seven kingdoms through a marriage alliance.
There are also the Iron Islands ruled by the Greyjoys of Pyke. But it is debated whether the Iron Islands are an independent kingdom, or just another part of the Riverlands.
