Peaky Blinders had an evil Irish paedophile priest as one of their villains. God knows we've had more than our fair share of those. And plenty of evil nuns too.

I know that Italian-American groups are quite vocal in their displeasure about how Italians tend to be portrayed as mafia-types. Those of Irish descent tend to be written as harmless drunks. o_O But Irish roots are so prevalent among Americans that perhaps we aren't ready to accept representatives of the Mother Country to be portrayed as bad guys.

Evil church men, yes. But they are everywhere, and not just the Catholic churches.
What typical Irish things could they use to create a unique Irish villain?

Red hair is a must, of course. And his name is Paddy. Paddy O'...Turpentyne, who's trying to unleash...the curse of...think,think, think...the Drunken Sailor?
Or a villain who's trying to control all the luck in the world?:bubble:

    lol, yep, pretty much.

Well when Hollywood isn't portraying us as harmless drunks we're usually the good guys, with a long history of the American-Irish cop in Hollywood movies. Someone's gotta put those Italians behind bars!

Here's an interesting article on the American-Irish cop in Hollywood.

Well, using an Irish actor is probably a good place to start, Sean Connery is Scottish....

Speaking of Italians, have you seen the series BROTHERHOOD? They are the Irish "Sopranos", and it's really very good.

I only used him as an example (a Scottish villain who looks Scottish)

No, I haven't seen it. I do like that actor on the left.

    I guess that's alright then. :D

Maybe they could cast Robert Sheehah as the Irish version of Peter De Vilbis in NuDynasty.

Is it? Although usually fair skinned, we all aren't redheads. Redheads are pretty rare everywhere now, even in Ireland. I mean Gabriel Byrne, Pierce Brosnan, Jamie Dornan, Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, Jimmy Nesbit, Daniel Day Lewis, Liam Neeson, Stuart Townsend, Aiden Turner, all Irish... None red haired.

I think dark hair and blue/brown eyes is more typical Irish.

Well it's not that they are rare nowadays, they're just rare in movies, and always have been. How many Hollywood hunks can you name that were ginger? It's slightly more acceptable to be ginger as an actress (and even then they tend to be redish brown, like Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman) but when it comes to famous actors it's incredibly rare. I can't think of any red haired men in the 80's soaps either.

I think gingers are rarer now though, a dying breed. Something genetic going on there. Michael Fassbender may have a tough of the ging in him. In some pictures it shows, but in films his hair is more brown. [IMG]

Just come a little further south, they're everywhere!! :D
But maybe they are a dying breed, perhaps global warming will wipe them out.

Ok, that's a good example actually, he is kinda ginger. And definitely a hunk.

It's funny. There are no redheads on my mothers side. They are all either fair haired or brunette. She has 11 brothers! On my fathers side they all have dark brown to black hair. I have 3 brothers and I am the one with the darkest hair. More a medium brown though. My older brother is a sandy red head, my 2 younger brothers have a dirty fair lighter hair colour, not exactly blonde. We all have slight ginger flecks in our beards/facial hair. All of us were blonde/fair when we were born. I was actually platinum blonde.

Oh, I have plenty of ginger genes floating around both sides of the family. We never quite know where they will show up. And it's harder to identify red-haired actors when so many of them became ginger due to a detour through the Miss Clairol aisle. It's funny: my sister hated her red hair as a child, but now everyone admires it and she's proud of it being naturally that way, not out of a bottle. The first guy I ever got really serious about was red-haired, though he was French-Canadian and not Irish...but it established my 'thing' for natural redheads.

"The carpet's the same as the curtains." :D

Those foreigners.... can never trust them!

Especially those Russians! No Russian is ever a nice guy on American TV. Well, if they aren't evil, then they're clownish drunks.

    :loon:
