"Poor, poor Val! Take those candy pills and die, you Lego-beech!"
Pam and Bobby
Jason and Sable
Val and Gary
JR and Sue Ellen
Melissa and Lance
1. Sable and Jason - The Colbys
2. Alexis and Blake - Dynasty (Of course we never saw the actual divorce, but it's significance is supreme in Dynasty backstory. The banishment, the beating, Roger Grimes.)
3. Bobby and Pam - Dallas
4. Val and Gary - Knots Landing
5. JR and Sue Ellen - Dallas (The 34th time specifically)
The 34th?!?! I always thought the 53rd time was the Gold Standard of JR/Sue Ellen divorces. Even the 81st one outshines the 34th. [/smacks head]
1 - Sable and Jason
2 - Sue Ellen and JR
3 - Melissa and Lance
4 - Angela and Peter
5 - Val and Gary
1. Sable and Jason
2. Blake and Krystle
3. Alexis and Dex
4. Blake and Alexis
5. Gary and Abby
6. Melissa and Lance
Somehow I can't remember this scene...was it after she went into a coma? I think she asked Blake to divorce her if she wasn't coming back?
But then, if she wasn't coming back it meant she would die.
It's kind of a chicken/egg situation. If Blake did divorce Krystle, you can bet the administrators at that fancy-shmancy sanitarium would pull Krystle's plug and dump her out on the curb that same day, now that Mr. Carrington's no longer footing the bill.
1. Pam and Bobby
2. sue Ellen and JR
3. alexis and Blake (even though we never saw their divorce on screen, the conflict from it created drama for the entire shows run)
4. Lucy and Mitch
5. Alexis and Dex :-(
Honourable mention to Val and Gary, as I didn’t watch knots. Can someone tell me did they get back together/remarry by the end of the shows run? I hope so. It would be sad to have another Pam and Bobby marriage. They were a lovely couple who should be together thanks
Yes, KL was kind enough to finally....finally get them back together. To coin a phrase, it was a long and winding road.
1. Val & Gary (Knots Landing)
It's so outdrawn and melodramatic and it's so obvious that they still love each other and yet they go their separate ways and then they have the twins...
2. Alexis & Blake (Dynasty)
I know you said on screen only, but their divorce was the root of the entire show!
Alexis still loves Blake and tries to win him back but Blake doesn't love Alexis anymore...
Damn I want that prequel show so we could have properly seen what really happened!
3. Bobby & Pam (Dallas)
Another really long goodbye where they didn't want to get divorced even.
4. JR & Sue Ellen (Dallas)
Nasty divorce with custody battle. It could have gotten a lot uglier than it did. But JR played nice since his mama showed up in court. I guess he really didn't want to lose Sue Ellen either as he gave her one last chance to drop the whole thing and come back to him before they went into court. That conversation is memorable somehow. It was like she was a posession he didn't want to lose...
5. Lance & Melissa (Falcon Crest)
I remember this couple celebrating their divorce with champagne. It was like they got along better when they were not forced to be in the arranged marriage and somewhere down the line they realized that they had grown to love each other.
6. Sable & Jason (The Colbys)
Another outdrawn divorce. She really didn't want to let him go.
I think Krystle forced Blake to sign the divorce papers in case the surgery in Switzerland wouldn't work out. So that he was free of her. It was a typically selfless Krystle kind of thing to do. I think she had him sign the papers before they renewed their vows even. She held them over his said saying she refused to have the surgery if he wouldn't sign them. She needed the surgery to live so he signed them.
And here's our Top 5 Best SoapLand Divorces:
1. Jason & Sable Colby (The Colbys) - 37 points.
It was a bumpy ride, but oh what fun we had. In terms of grandeur, it was almost the soap equivalent of Charles & Diana.
"You may now kiss your ex-wife's sister (who may or may not still be in love with your brother)".
2. Bobby & Pamela Ewing (Dallas) - 30 points.
Nations worldwide witnessed in horror how Prime Time Soap's first True Love Couple called it quits.
However, it was a happy day for 2 feuding brothers and a half-sister. Nice family!
3. Gary & Valene Ewing (Knots Landing) - 29 points.
They got a second chance in another town, in another soap. First there was the bottle, then there was Abby.
You can take the Ewing out of Dallas, but you can't take Dallas out of the Ewing.
"You may now kiss your conniving bitch-neighbour".
4. J.R. & Sue Ellen Ewing (Dallas) - 22 points.
Eventhough Southfork Ranch won the battle of the favourite soap mansions, this marriage was a Little Hell On The Prairie.
You'd think they would divorce each other every year, just because they enjoyed the hurt and the misery. Oh wait...I think they did that.
5. Gary & Abby Ewing (Knots Landing) - 9 points.
I guess to most fans this was a question of "when", rather than "if", and yet they were married for almost 3 seasons.
Abby never really changed, but Gary lost his ambitions because of Jock's money (emasculated by his father once again) and started to focus on saving Californian trees.
You could almost say that he was the biggest betrayer in that marriage built on adultery.
"You may now kiss your precious Empire Valley".
Congratulations, THE COLBYS!
Just wondering if you've included my votes in the total?
As I just posted them. I know this sometimes happens to me when I'm in the middle of talling up the Movie Top Ten results. Someone posts after I've calculated the points but before I've had a chance to post them...
So that's why I am wondering this...
