In your opinion, what is the funniest film of all time? I recently watch Airplane! (1980) and although I've seen it many times, I still found it to be laugh out loud funny almost 40 years after it was first released. I would rate it as the funniest film I've ever seen.

I'd agree with you on Airplane as the funniest, imho. Other movies that ar3 close to it and made me really laugh would be:
    9 to 5
    Flirting with Disaster
    Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein
    Thoroughly Modern Millie
    Bananas
    Foul Play
    Caddyshack
I Love You, Alice B. Toklas
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

I love Airplane! too, as well as The Naked Gun and The Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers.

The more "silly" humour starring terrific comedy actors. Comedy is IMO more difficult to play than drama.

It's Swedish humor but I can't help but finding Lasse Åberg's "Sällskapsresan" movies hilarious.
It is a bunch of vacation movies that picks up on trends in society at the time.

In the first movie they go to "Gran Canaria". It is from 1980.
The second one they go to the alps on a ski trip. It's from 1985.
The third one they get a sailing boat. It's from 1988.
The fourth one they go golfing in Scotland. It's from 1991.
The fifth one they go to a spa. It is from 1999.

The mention of non-American movies has reminded me of the very funny French film, The Dinner Game.

I have so many funny ones to choose from growing up. My Dad was a genius at picking them and my brother and I have so many funny memories from movies we can quote from. For me the funniest are anything slapstick or featuring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor.

    1. Stir Crazy - absolutely hilarious in so many ways.

    2. Young Frankenstein - I mean Igor/Egor - what's not to love?

    3. Clue - total slapstick and based on the boardgame - love it and know every line, as I do with both above

    4. Hear No Evil, See No Evil - 'He is deaf...not stuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid'

    5. Airplane - so stupid but absolutely hilarious. For about the first 20 years of my life I thought an autopilot was actually a blow up doll. True story.

Mrs. Doubtfire will always be one of the funniest films for me.

It's Complicated is another favourite of mine and the perfect example of how comedies should make you cry, too.

Even now, I still laugh whenever I hear - "don't call me Shirley"

Some children's films are also very funny in parts with the humour subtly aimed at adults, such as :- Toy Story and Shrek.

It has to be Some Like it Hot (1959). It has physical comedy, smart, witty dialogue, brilliant performances, great direction. Billy Wilder truly was the best.

Each time I watch Some Like it Hot it feels as good as the first time. It's maybe the only movie that has this effect on my. A sign of true, timeless comedy quality.

I would also add Charlie Chaplin shorts with Modern Times (1936) as his best. It's just hilarious.

The factory scene is my favorite. Watch and enjoy!

There are an awful lot of "Funny" film actors that I just dont find very funny at all!

my list of Funny films would include

    Airplane
    the life of Brian
The naked Gun - 1st one

and amusing films would include Tootsie and Mrs Doubtfire

    Clue was hilarious

Yes Mrs Doubtfire, Airplane and Naked Gun all good

But my funniest movie of all time - complete slapstick - which flopped unfortunately - is

RAT RACE - Whoopie, Rowan, John Cleese

    I couldn’t stop laughing :)

than you have Animal House as well just to name a few

Airplane just makes you laugh so loudly, my favourite scene is the little girl being asked how she likes her coffee...."Black....like my men"! - LOVE IT!

I also love Top Secret, which is by the same team...some brilliant moments in that film.

Stir Crazy - haven't seen it in a while but the "We're bad" scene is just genius.

I'm also a massive Carry On fan with my favourite being Carry On Screaming but so many of them make me laugh.

let's see The Kentucky Fried movie and old one from (1977) that's made by the same people who did Airplane though one you can watch with the family the other you cannot.

You can't take it with you as well a classic from (1938) that's a drama of sorts. a romance of sorts and a comedy of sorts as well all blended into one genius film. i'm sorry i think Kentucky Fried movie is a lot better than Top Secret and well i think Loose Shoes and another oldie from (1980) is better too. not that i think Top Secret is a bad movie i don't it's just not among my favorites that's all. they used to play that non stop on tv growing up well that and Real Genius and don't get me wrong that's not a bad movie either i'm just tired of that film even if i haven't seen it i dunno maybe 20 years or so? kinda like how i haven't seen Grease since (1999) when i watched it on the last day of high school.

it's overplayed on tv so i just loose interest in a film when that happens that's just how i am ya know? even if i don't hate the film not at all i'm just tired of seeing it on tv that's all
