What did you think about it?
I think the new theme was good, but it should have been the full theme. I got the feeling that the full theme was done, but it was chopped to a shorter version. If so, is the full theme available somewhere?
Another thing was that during the original series the theme was updated every season (at least the majority of them), but the TNT theme stayed the same.

Updating the theme costs money; I can understand why they wouldn’t have done that on a basic cable show.

I didn’t mind the shortened theme, but I did mind where they shortened it. They cut out the main melody that used to appear over the opening title. They should have cut somewhere else.

    Just to post it:

I didn’t mind it at all, even the length. I did mind the missing pictures of the actors - a small thing but none the less. And alphabetical order.

Yeah, me too. I remember how thrilled I was when season 3 started with the real title credits.

We miss that so much as a set up to what’s to follow in shows today. One thing I love about House of Cards - that song set you up and you’re in the right frame of mind.

I don't understand this cost-cutting measure by producers today not having full-fledged opening titles or theme. It announces to the viewer what your show is about. I didn't mind the TNT Dallas intro - I'm just thankful we had it. I would have prefered the full theme with the actors shown in alphabetical order as in the original. Season 1 of TNT Dallas had some great shots of the city skyline at night - rarely scene in Lorimar Dallas - however by season 3 they were dropped.

Another observation I've detested over the years is TV series beginning an episode and just prior to their first commercial break they offer a short intro...think The CW Dynasty. Having the intro front and centre announces to household your favourite series is about to begin.

Scores used during the era of primetime soaps was just as important in creating a scene. After all these years I can still hum the music used when Katherine enters Bobby's hospital room to inject him with something lethal.

This movie was on Australian commercial television last night. I've never understood the attraction of Gone With The Wind. Vivien Leigh's hyperventilating acting drove me nuts. I've always imagined what this movie would have been like with the great late Elizabeth Taylor opposite Clark Gable.

Why do shows these days show the credits 10 minutes into the show?

    I dunno
It started in the 90s - since people would just skip the intro they'd start putting scenes before the opening credits and a commercial break. In theory it would make people tune in and watch the commercials = better for the advertisers. This practice has stayed put and for some reason they've extended the opening scenes (which used to be very brief) to very long.

Since Elizabeth Taylor was seven years old when Gone With the Wind was made, the part of Scarlett O‘Hara might have been somewhat beyond her...
Plus, IMHO Vivien Leigh‘s performance in that movie is absolutely perfect. It earned her an Academy Award against very strong competition.

Well I obviously knew this. I was hypothesizing if Gone With The Wind was made at a later point in time, when Elizabeth was older.

It's a pet peeve of mine only because on the rare occasion I'm about to watch something on commercial television I have to keep an eye on the clock rather than listen out for the intro music.

But then Clark Gable would have been older too. He was 31 years older than Elizabeth Taylor. I just don’t think that combination would have been an option at any time...

The movie wasn’t for everyone but it fit it’s time and place. I wish it had been more loyal to the book myself. I also think it said something to a nation about to finally enter the civil rights movement, interrupted by the war. It says wtf is going on IMHO.

Here's the first rejected intro to the TNT Dallas, which was eventually emended into the one which was eventually seen on screen. You'll notice immediately that the billing was originally in alphabetical order but for some reason this was changed for the final approved version.

It's a shame they didn't tweak this version with the gold Dallas logo, as I love how Larry Hagman's credit pop's up & then drop's down again. :)

I am a huge fan of theme tunes/titles ( and have been since a kid - I'm 51 now) and I really cannot express or put into words just how mad this theme makes me - just as I'm expecting my 2nd favourite theme tune ever to kick in with the cast list it jumps to the 2nd third of the theme....IT'S HELLISH!!! Damn it infuriates me.

They brought back Thunderbirds a couple of years ago and did the exact same thing...a great theme tune should never be f*cked with IMO....sorry for the naughty word.
