This was a tough choice. Karen and Fallon share the common ground of starting out strong and (in my opinion) becoming somewhat weaker by their respective shows' middle years. Karen remained interesting and consistent as a character for the entire duration, while the hand-wringing damsel in distress we saw on The Colbys has sealed Fallon's fate.
Karen Fairgate MacKenzie
This was another close one. Bobby was one of the first soap characters to draw me in, while Susan Sullivan is an engaging actress and Maggie's arc seems like an interesting one. The comments from others earlier in this match have helped me make my decision. So it's...
When I looked at this picture, my instant reaction was: uh-oh, it's going to be Karen vs. Fallon (not kidding!)
1. Karen MacKenzie - because she didn't say "no" to drugs.
2. Bobby Ewing - I like Maggie better, but it's always so much fun to discuss Bobby and the Bobbies.
Now predict who will win overall.
Interesting. I would have said someone from Dallas because the forum seems to have more fans of that show that the others but what do I know, I thought Sue Ellen would have won The World Cup of Dallas.
Abby is going to choose her opponents carefully
Round 1 - Karen Mckenzie - cos she was married to Sid and I liked them as a couple
Round 2 - Bobby Ewing - but has to be original Bobby and not the insufferable and annoying TNT Bobby who left me cold
Round One - Karen Mackenzie: one of the pillars of the show, Karen was the rock around which all the insanity happened. Yes, she could be annoying at times but she was strong and the one constant among the female cast across the show's 14 seasons. I do like Fallon but her characterization was just too inconsistent.
Round Two - Maggie Gioberti: a strong, classy and layered character who is one of my FC favourites.
Round 1 - Karen
Round 2 - Maggie
1. Fallon Carrington Triple Colby - Pamela Sue Martin was great, and Emma Samms was great when the scripts gave her the chance to be during the last season. Michele Lee was great in seasons 1 to 5, and then again in season 14. So both characters had great beginnings and endings, middle not so much. And imo Fallon was the more interesting character to watch.
2. Maggie Hartfort Gioberti Channing - I liked Bobby, but Maggie was an interesting good character to watch, one of my favourates from Falcon Crest.
Great post and welcome to the game. I hope you'll continue to participate.
There's still time to save Fallon from the alien life form. Vote for your winner of the matches between Karen MacKenzie and Fallon Carrington and between Bobby Ewing and Maggie Gioberti before the poll closes at midnight on Sunday.
Is that alien life form wearing rose-colored glasses?
+1 on that. I think Knots Landing will win. It seems to have the most devoted fans on SC right now. I think some will feel "JR is way too predictable to win, I'll vote for someone else to make this more fun!"
Match 1) - Fallon
Match 2) - Maggie
Angela visits Maggie and Richard, after the drama at the end of season 6. Chase is presumed drowned, (a scene from season 7, 1987 - '88):
Angela: "What a terrible tragedy, for all of us."
Maggie: "I don't think this is a tragedy for you Angela. I think it's a triumph!"
Angela: "Now, I understand your upset but ......"
Maggie: "Of course I'm upset. What do you think this is? A party."
Angela: "I think you should be sedated. Have you talked to the doctor?" she asks Richard.
Richard: "You better shut up and get out of here, before I put you in intensive care!"
Angela: "Chase and I didn't see eye to eye Maggie but believe me I didn't want him dead."
Maggie: "After everything that as happened you come in here and expect me to embrace you? Look at you! Look at you! The matriarch all dressed in black, paying condolence calls, laughing all the way to the ......
You turned your back on Chase, a long time ago. Don't you think I'm ever going to forget that."
That was a great scene, and I know you're trying to focus on Maggie, but you missed out the best line. At the end Angela says "If anyone turned their back on Chase it was you!".
That's what made Angela such a great character, even when she was under extreme attack, she would still find a way of having the last word with some very telling home truths.
Is this the scene when Angela angrily removes her veil, or was it after Douglas' death? Somehow I can't find that scene anymore but I know she did it and I'm pretty sure she was wearing a funeral outfit.
This scene is from the first episode of season 7, after Chase is presumed dead after diving in the San Francisco Bay to save to occupants of Melissa's car. Angela goes to Maggie's home to pass on her condolences but she wasn't wearing a veil. I don't recall the scene you're referring to, I'll have to do some re-watching soon.
