Arrangements have been made....
For what it's worth, we're gonna miss you.
There's still time to save Chase, if that's your preference. Vote for your winner between Chase Gioberti and Jock Ewing and between Sable Colby and Greg Sumner by midnight on Sunday when the poll closes.
1 - Chase - got to vote for the underdog
2 - Sable - fabulous in The Colbys and assisted so much in the final Dynasty year (the show ended on a A+ season)
Match 11) - Jock
Match 12) - Sable
JR feels that he has fully recovered, after been nearly bumped off by his sister in law Kristin. He talks to Jock about going back to Ewing Oil, (a scene from season 3; DVD - 4, 1980 - '81):
Jock: "Look JR. Bobby didn't want to take this job. He did it because I asked him. I agreed to let him run the company the way he saw fit. He did just."
Jock: "Now just bear me out. Bobby did a damn fine job. Don't you think I owe it to him to run the company a while longer."
JR: "Well where does that leave me? It's my company. I want it back."
Jock: "I can't do that!"
JR grinds his teeth and walks off the Southfork patio, not pleased at all.
Match 11: Chase Gioberti - despite me being more familiar with Dallas than FC, Jock is not a big part of my Dallas recollections whereas Chase is a big part of my FC experience. I just recall Chase being in the midst of more of the action whereas my (probably incorrect) memory of Jock is of a strong patriarch who was often secondary to the stories of his wayward children.
Match 12: Sable Colby - this one is a bit of a Sophie's Choice situation as both Greg and Sable are among my favourites out of all the 80's soaps (alongside Alexis, Abby, Sue Ellen and Laura). However, Sable is winning this given that she burned so brightly for the three seasons that we had her for (or two seasons if we're only counting her stint on The Colbys, I can't remember the rules). Greg is still the best male character out of any of the 80's soaps though. Even with longevity, he maintained a quality and class while his counterparts in equally long running roles on the other soaps often drifted into stagnation (Blake) or parody (JR).
I've not watched Falcon Crest, but I do like Bob Foxworth as an actor and Willie's comments about Chase becoming an unpleasant character have intrigued me. Jock was also an unpleasant character at times, but since most of his greatest storylines happened after he died, it's going to be...
The choice between Greg and Sable has been the toughest yet. I was going to sit this one out, but since it looks like Sable's going to win, it deserves to at least be very close. So I vote for...
Wow! After the previous week's very one-sided matches, I predicted that the results would be closer this week but I never expected it to be this close.
The poll has now closed and the votes have been counted and verified and the totals for your votes in last week's matches are as follows:
Jock Ewing - 14
Chase Gioberti - 4
Sable Colby 9
Greg Sumner 9
According to the rules of the game, in the event of a draw, the casting vote goes to the first person to vote the match. That person was @Ome who for match 12 voted for Sable Colby, just TWO MINUTES before @Michelle Stevens voted for Greg Sumner.
The characters going through to the next round are confirmed as:
A record EIGHTEEN people took part in last week's vote. Thank you to everybody who participated and contributed to an exciting result.
Details of this week's vote will be posted later today.
So we say a sad farewell to Chase and Greg and the players board has been updated accordingly.
The next round will see a fight between 2 outsiders that fell in love with a rich and powerful man and 2 members of the same family will also compete against each other. Full details to follow shortly.
oh Gutted for Greg Sumner as William Devane rocks
Stephanie Beacham was hard work on The real marigold hotel! lol
Me too! He was such a great addition to the Knots Landing cast.
Lol I’d been up since 3am NZ time to make that first vote for Pam haha @Angela Channing. I’ve done all I can for her lol ;-)
Match 13: I always thought Krystle was really irritating with her whispery voice and her hairstyle that looked like an elaborate pair of open curtains. Lane of the other hand was a ballsy character that was never scared to go toe to toe with Titus. Easy choice for me, my winner is Lane Ballou.
Match 14: This is much tougher as I really like both characters and they brought so much to their respective shows. However, I think Pam was more essential to Dallas than Gary was to Knots Landing and was the more consistently likeable and interesting. My winner is Pamela Ewing.
You dedication is impressive. All that to show support for Krystle.
Poor Gary. Not just the black sheep but now the sacrificial lamb.
Some great Lane songs have been posted about the place recently. They're very good indeed, but early Krystle is terrific. So it's...
There's no question that Pam will win this round, but her brother-in-law's greatness shouldn't go unnoticed. He grew into a complex, nuanced character. Sometimes he was uncomfortable to watch, but always very fascinating, and perhaps one of soap's most underestimated people. More importantly, he was the only person in all Soapland with a better laugh than Pam. So...
Oh dear. The main reason that Krystle got my vote is because I’d never seen the other show so i don’t know Lane to be fair ;-)
Match 13- Krystle
Match 14- Gary
13 - Lane Ballou - couldnt watch Linda Evans if you paid me
14. Pam Ewing - the most important female on Dallas
Separate names with a comma.
