This really complicates the ongoing The Beatles-fans vs. The Rollings Stones-fans feud.

But I'm not even sure what the Hollies "sound" is.
They've done Beatles-style songs like this:

Then we got the Moody Blues-esque "The Air That I Breathe".

And this could have been the inspiration for ABBA's "Does Your Mother Know"

They even flirted with disco when they released "Wiggle That Wotsit", the Hollies' answer to the bump and the hustle I suppose.

And then they also did this:

I feel as if I've unearthed something I shouldn't have.

The only song that comes to mind for me on hearing their name is their warm, mellow cover of The Air That I Breathe, which I'd far rather listen to than any of The Beatles or The Stones' stuff:

I think my first exposure to The Hollies was "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" and then probably "The Air That I Breathe" - both annoyed the hell out of me, so I never looked any further.

I recognise this one and I like it.

I actually thought someone would come along and find a song I liked (therefor making me question my earlier comment) and you would have been at the top of my list to do this.
    :hiding:

I think, subconsciously I knew there would be more to The Hollies than the two songs I mentioned.

I've always thought this was their biggest hit?

I don't recognise it. Looking at their discography, they certainly had many hits in the UK. My parents never played their music, so I was pretty oblivious to them until 1988 when the song "He Aint Heavy" featured on an advert and then became a number one.

Now I need to know why.

Ah - that may explain one of them, at least. ;) Actually, The Air That I Breathe was used for another advert in the Eighties or Nineties, wasn't it?

Yes, both the advert and song was overplayed to point where I roll my eyes if I hear it now.
That could well be it and then at some point Simply Red brought it back into the charts.

I didn't ask. But I would also never ask a soapchatter if he/she is drinking.
