It's nice enough, but I still prefer the version I chose. I like the way it starts slowly and the energy builds until the beat really kicks in halfway through the first verse.

Ruby Tuesday is drawing to a close.

Just two voted (apologies for not having time to listen myself this week). You both came up with eleven unique versions. And it was very close between our top three artists. This is how the battle went...

    Next up...
    Sympathy

Suggested by @Ome, "Sympathy" is a song written and first recorded by the English progressive rock band Rare Bird. It became the band's only UK chart entry when it peaked at #27 in the UK Singles Chart in 1970. It also became a hit in continental Europe and sold one million copies worldwide.

The cover art features a painting by Marc Harrison titled The Birdwoman Of Zartacla (later also used for the cover of the June 1981 issue of Heavy Metal magazine).

In 1992, a version by Marillion reached#17 in the UK, becoming their 17th Top 40 hit. Other artists to have recorded this song include Steve Rowland with Family Dog; Tim Rose; Toyah; Jasper Steverlinck and Carlotta Proietti.

Over twenty versions may be found here. Maybe you know of some others too. Tell us below which are your favourites.

Please list up to ten versions with a minimum three choices. You're welcome to list more than ten, but only the first ten will be counted, with the maximum of ten points going to your #1 choice.

Everyone's welcome to join in. If we could have our choices in by Monday night I'll tally them up and let you know our overall winner.

    Enjoy!

She has a little Eartha Kitt sounding to parts of her vocals in this one.

    Our next Standard is...
    Upside Down

Suggested by @Willie Oleson, "Upside Down" is a song written and produced by Chic members Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. It was recorded by American singer Diana Ross. The song was issued as a single through the Motown label in 1980, as the lead single from her tenth studio album, Diana.

"Upside Down" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on September 6, 1980 - a position it held for four weeks. The song was also a big hit internationally, topping the singles charts in Sweden, Italy, Norway, and Switzerland, while reaching #5 in Canada. It rose to #2 on the UK Singles Chart, marking the highest peak performance from Ross as a solo artist since "I'm Still Waiting" in 1971.

"Upside Down" is listed at number 62 on Billboard's "Greatest Songs of All Time."

The song has since been covered by a number of artists including: Eva Smart (1980); Precious Wilson (1983); Tom Jones with Dusty Springfield (1997); The BB Band (1999) and Günther Neefs (2008).

Almost thirty versions may be found here. Have a listen. Then come back and tell us which ones you love most.

Please list up to ten versions with a minimum of three choices. You're very welcome to list more than ten but only the first ten will be counted.

Everyone is free to join in. The more, the merrier. If we could have our choices in by Wednesday night that would be super. Have fun.

Sorry, this was probably not my best suggestion.
I guess I should list Diana's version as The Standard, however I prefer to listen to my #1.

Special thanks to @Angela Channing for my #1 choice. I'd fully expected Diana's original to top my vote so this was a lovely surprise.

    1. Marie Rottrová [Vytahuj se radši míň]
    2. Diana Ross
    3. Diana Ross [Almighty Mix]
    4. Eva Smart

Au contraire, Willie. There have been some really nice discoveries for me this round. I only knew Diana's versions before.

Sorry I'm a bit tardy. I'm off to tot them up and will be back with the results very soon. :hy:
