    Hollywood Wives, maybe.
But I liked the Chances and Lucky novels better than that trash-y mini-series.

The book came out in 1990, I think, and the miniseries in 1991. So it wouldn't have been a factor.

I know Filoli limited filming for a while, but I'm not sure if it was when DYNASTY was still in production... And let's face it, Spelling would have nixed any location shooting because "the show is already a hit" except for the pilot and the Carousel Ball interiors.

Ah, I was meaning about The Reunion, which I guess filmed sometime in early 91?

Oh, that's right. The REUNION was filmed in early summer '91 and AIW in winter 90/91, I believe. One assumes Aaron was the reasons for the use of the L.A. beaux arts mansion instead of Filoli, but who knows.

It's been decades since I've seen it but the first favorite mini-series from the 80s that I watched was Scruples. Why this never made it to series during that time (or even back in 2012 when they attempted another pilot) is beyond me.

Somehow that is the only Judith Krantz mini-series I haven't seen.I have some of the books as well, and they are enjoyable. Between her and Sidney Sheldon, I needed no TV in the summer.

I think I've read every Sidney Sheldon story and even the ones I didn't like were readable enough - but the tv movies were not so great, mostly due to terrible miscasts.
The Noelle Page character from "The Other Side Of Midnight" was supposed to look like Brigitte Bardot, not Marie-France Pisier.
Bloodline - Ben Gazzara and Audrey Hepburn?? It just didn't make any sense (and the only reason to watch this is Romy Schneider).
Rage Of Angels was hm-hm so-so, it was a story with a sad ending but of course that can't happen on television.
I never bothered with the 90s movies like "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "A Stranger In The Mirror" (one of his best novels, actually).

So you mean that the TV version of "Rage of Angels" didn´t have a sad enough ending...? Did Jaclyn Smith's character die in the novel?:eek:

Worse. The kid died. Oh, and before that he was (partially) crucified and almost burned to death.
Angela Lansbury's character didn't exist in the novel, and she was painfully over-the-top.

Ken Howard was miscast as the romantic lead, the fact that they couldn't be together wasn't sad at all.
    The bitchy wife won.

I also think that these movies and mini-series usually work better with (relatively) unfamiliar faces in the lead roles - Merete Van Kamp, most of the cast of North & South and "V", Jenny Seagrove etc.

Ironically the bitchy wife was played in Part 1 of ROA by the actress who played Richard Channing´s ex-wife in Season 4 of "Falcon Crest" (Lorraine´s mum). And then in Part 2, here comes Susan Sullivan to replace her in the same role!! Anyway, I think that Jaclyn Smith probably had a clause in all her 80´s mini-series contracts specifying that her character always had to have a happy ending...

I liked the mini-series for "If Tomorrow Comes," though the actress had some weird reactions at times. I also loved the "Master of the Game" mini-series.

Yeah, those are the best Sheldon movies.
    How so?

She would morph her face in some weird ways at times, especially when she wanted to show she was thinking/scheming or when she was on to someone else's plan. This happened more on the second part.
