From time to time I watch clips on YouTube that I think would be of interest to other members but there isn't really a thread they belong in, and perhaps they don't necessarily warrant a thread of their own. So this is a thread to share clips that are thought-provoking, inspirational, or that cover an interesting topic. It could be an interview, a podcast, a lecture or a TED talk.

To get the ball rolling here is a wonderful talk by the eloquent and charismatic Benjamin Zander, an English conductor, who is currently the musical director of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Whether you're a fan of classical music or not (and he might just convert you before the talk is over!) this is well worth a listen, as his message is an inspiring and powerful one.

I love Ted talks, so I'll contribute this one, which discusses one of my favourite topics. "We don't want to look at it; we'd rather be sick."

Fascinating. Modern medicine has such a long way to go when it comes to recognizing that everything in our lives has an effect on our health. That you can't separate the mind, body, emotions and the spirit, that if something happens to one of those it ripples out to affect the others. I recently met with an excellent holistic doctor to talk about health issues I've been having. It was such a different experience than the long line of conventional doctors I had been dealing with. The questions he asked me, the things he wanted to know about all aspects of my life, the dots that he connected. It was like someone finally putting the parts of the jigsaw together into a something that made sense to me. Humans are complex, health is complex, and to understand why something is going wrong it's essential to look at the bigger picture, the whole picture.

This woman's story is quite incredible. After a four year battle with cancer she was literally given hours to live, but had a near death experience which brought about a rapid healing that left the doctors mystified. This is her story:
