Yeah, it's one of those US albums where they tampered with the track listings on the original LPs, taking off some songs and replacing them with other numbers -- B-sides, singles, foreign language versions -- so that they'd have enough left over to cobble together whole other albums for release. It was common practice back in those days. This one's got bits and bobs from Rubber Soul and Revolver on it. And that properly mental cover. But at least they kept their clothes on this time.

In those days it must have been difficult for Beatles fans to collect ALL their songs.
Back in 1966, could they just order American import LPs from their local record stores?
And let's not forget all the singles and EP's with different B-sides.
But perhaps all that information wasn't so easily available. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

I'm guessing that only the foreign language versions of their songs wouldn't have been readily available in the UK. Everything else would have been released either as a single or on an LP.

And after a while, the Beatles got so busy that they stopped making foreign language versions of their songs anyway. (Then when other artists/labels saw how well the Beatles sold abroad singing in their own language, they figured why bother making foreign versions and the practice gradually fell out of fashion across the board. And as a result of that, the Beatles have been credited with popularising the English language all over the world, but I'm not sure they can take credit for that!)

Still, I'm glad ABBA had recorded Dame! Dame! Dame! (Amor Esta Noche). It sounds so summer-ish.
But overall I find the translated versions very hit-or-miss.

OK, I'll have a look at the Beatles LP covers - although I'm still very busy ploughing through Elton John's discography.

    1. Abbey Road
The first cover I think of when I think of their album covers

    2. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Reminds me of a cast photo of 80s soap opera Santa Barbara

    3. A Hard Day's Night
Feels like The Beatles going Andy Warhol

    4. Revolver
Artsy creative without looking too polished or professional

    5. The White Album
    Just cause it's... quite brilliant!

    Honorable mention:

    Very Together,
with 1 of the 4 candles blown out. It's too sad. :(

    [IMG] [IMG]

It now occurs to me that they aren't very similar at all. :lolo: But for some reason, I've always thought "Santa Barbara" whenever I've seen the Sgt Pepper album cover.

    ABBA

List your favorite album covers by ABBA.
Top 5 will count, but if you wish, you can list more.
But only the 5 first will get points.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABBA_discography

Last day for voting: Tuesday, March 28st.

    And remember:
Album covers - not singles covers.
Albums include live albums, compilations albums and soundtrack albums.
    And...
Be specific which album you list, as there can be more than one cover version.

I like the Abbey Road cover the most of the Beatles but I've never been a Beatles fan. I only have one album with them - a greatest hits one.

    Anyway ABBA covers:

    1. Waterloo
    2. Greatest Hits
    3. Arrival
    4. Voulez-Vous
    5. Ring Ring

The results post has been updated, cause it feels so little with only 2 voters. Late entries will be accepted for one week regarding Beatles, but after that it's finito. ;)

You can do a quick list of Beatles album, Karin. I will accept more votes for them because of so few voters.

    1. Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (because it looks very classy, and we had this gatefold LP when I was young)
    upload_2017-3-23_0-21-41.png

    2. ABBA (because it looks like a 1970s commercial for Cointreau or Paturain)
    upload_2017-3-23_0-20-25.png

    3. Voulez Vous (flash-y, glamorous)
    upload_2017-3-23_0-20-55.png

    4. From ABBA With Love (actually I think it looks ugly, but I like it's ugliness. This compilation includes solo recordings)
    upload_2017-3-23_0-24-1.png

    5. The Visitors (because of the shadows, it looks very warm)
    upload_2017-3-23_0-24-21.png

    .....................................

    ABBACADABRA
Revival. Flight Two. (ABBA dancecovers + Fallon Carrington Colby's spaceship = winner)

    1. Greatest Hits (UK Gatefold)

The dynamics of the couples. The hint of sadness. The slightly awkward poses. The autumnal warmth. This sums up what ABBA are remembered for (albeit in the second half of their run).

    2. Super Trouper

I often wonder who did win that Saab.

    3. The Visitors

Dark, chocolate box, slightly gothic weirdness.

    4. Arrival

That logo looks so good against the dark background. I love how pensive they all look: are they on the verge of realising the meaning of life, or has someone just said they might have left the freezer door ajar?

    5. ABBA: The Album

Colourful and classy in equal measures. It captures the quirky fun (and sometimes slightly experimental) tone of ABBA: The Movie.

I also want to show some love for...
