It's a versus battle, so yes you combine them together in your own top ten.

    Def Leppard vs Metallica

    DL v Met.jpg

As always, if you ten of the best for each artist I will include it in the final tally.

    Def Leppard
    upload_2019-11-6_12-26-29.jpeg
Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement.

The band's strongest commercial success came between the early 1980s and the early 1990s

Def Leppard's fourth album Hysteria, released in 1987, topped the UK and U.S. album charts. As of 2009, it has reached beyond the success of Pyromania, having been certified 12× platinum for sales of over 12 million in the U.S. and has gone on to sell over 25 million copies worldwide
    [IMG]
As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and have two albums with RIAA diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria. They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S.

    Metallica
    [IMG]
Metallica is an American heavy metal band. The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career.

The band's third album, Master of Puppets (1986), was described as one of the heaviest and most influential thrash metal albums. Its eponymous fifth album, Metallica (1991), the band's first to root predominantly in heavy metal, appealed to a more mainstream audience, achieving substantial commercial success and selling over 16 million copies in the United States to date, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan era.
Metallica ranks as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, having sold over 125 million albums worldwide as of 2018.

That's not the best argument. Def Leppard has released more albums than Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Sugababes, Steps, ABBA and many many more artists that have had their own top ten or top fifteen.

I'm not big on female singers, so if we were to do Celine, Cher, Whitney, Mariah, Beyonce and (again) many others. I would only be looking at their singles and what I've (marginally) liked through the years.

Def Leppard has released more studio albums than Hot Chocolate and Marc Almond while matching 10cc on their releases.

Which makes sense to do a vs battle doesn't it?

Overall, I see the vs as something to have more fun with. We've done Whitney, Celine, Mariah, Beyoncé and so many other artists that would be fun to see a battle between the two. I know Whitney and Celine are majorly loved on Soap Chat, so it would be interesting to see which artist gets that number one spot.

4 factors that spring to mind when I think of the versus battles.

    1. We've done the artist already
    2. Not popular with Soap Chat members
    3. Artists have a very small catalogue of songs
    4. Members suggesting a battle they would love to see get the Soap Chat audience.

Well, it doesn't even have to make sense. There are no rules here, no one needs to justify anything. Sorry if I gave that impression.
I was only saying that I really enjoy delving into something rather than a off-the-top-of-my-head Best Of. And when there's a lot to explore, then 2 or more artists can be a little overwhelming.
I honestly don't remember what my Bee Gees or Elton John top 10 was so I'd want to do it all over again.
But, as you both pointed out, in the case of artists being re-top 10'd it would be easier to focus on their greatest hits only since a Vs. Battle is essentially a Vs. Battle (rather than a representation of an artist's best/most popular work).

The best way to start a new day is to do some self-therapy:)

So...about Def Leppard....aaaaalll their videos have been blocked in my country.:yikey:

I get what you're saying and I understand where you're coming from.

I know that with some artists I just don't care much for their sound, but rather than miss out of it altogether (I have done that with a couple of artists) I like to jump on Spotify (use to be YT) and go through their hits, if they don't have a large catalogue, I'll happily check out some of the album tracks.

Then you get artists like Kim Carnes, Demis Roussos and Joni Mitchell where I only know one song and I get to sample their albums finding some new treasures.

It doesn't matter how we do it, or what we get out of it there is always, always so much to learn from all these music threads in this forum.

I was a big fan of Visage in the 80s and I often listen to their first two albums and yet when we did them the other month I found their last album (through your votes on some of the tracks) to be an absolute revelation. I was aware of that particular album but never gave it any attention.

And I get that two. My top ten for any of my favourite artists can be completely different from month to month. Just this morning I was playing Visage's latest album (thinking of you:lol:) and if we were to do them again, my top ten would be very different.

With that in mind, I don't want to bore people, so I keep trying to find ways of making it interesting while also trying to please member's favourite genres.

You should try Spotify, as far as I know, you can do it free.

Though I haven't listened to any of either band this week, it's been one of those weeks, ya know when everything is up and down...

So, just to contribute something :

    1. Nothing Else Matters (a pop oddity in the hardrock scene) - M
    2. King Nothing - M
    3. For Whom The Bell Tolls - M
    4. The Unforgiven - M
    5. Animal - DL

Also, I wonder if a hardrock fan could hear the difference between Brother Louie and Cheri, Cheri Lady !

I have to jump in here and say that I am a fan of many female artists!!! :p

This battle was easy. I like both Metallica & Def Leppard and was already familiar with both music catalogues. Metallica is especially popular with a number of people I know. My BFF and her ex have seen them in concert a few times.

    Metallica Top 10:
    1. Enter Sandman (one of the best songs ever in music history!)
    2. Whiskey in the Jar
    3. Master of Puppets
    4. The Unforgiven
    5. Turn the Page
    6. Until it Sleeps
    7. The Unforgiven II
    8. Orion
    9. The Memory Remains
    10. Seek & Destroy

    Def Leppard Top 10:
    1. Pour Some Sugar On Me
    2. When Love and Hate Collide
    3. Hysteria
    4. Animal
    5. We Belong
    6. Invincible
    7. Love Bites
    8. Let's Go
    9. Photograph
    10. Long Long Way To Go

    - They also did a great Spotify recording of Personal Jesus that's terrific.

It sounds like your saying because people like Rock or Hard Rock we can't tell the differences in music? I have a very wide variety of music that I love. I don't stick to just one genre and Rock has some of the best guitar riffs and drum solos in history.

Personally I prefer it when we do one artist at the time rather than the vs. threads. But I would be okay to bring back artists we've already done if we put them vs. each other.

This is my very short list. The two bands are not among my favorites but I do like some of their songs. :)

    1. When Love and Hate Collide (DL)
    2. Nothing Elese Matters (M)
    3. Long, Long way to go (DL)

Also when it comes to rock/hard rock music, I can't seem to remember have we done "Europe" top ten?

I've listened to those DF/Metallica songs and it all sounds the same to me. Disco is more my style but I'm aware of the fact that it can be painfully formulaic sometimes.
I (mistakenly!) assumed that most hardrock fans are not into that kind of euro-disco sound like Modern Talking or even Boney M.
So I asked myself the question, if you don't like Modern Talking (like I don't like Def Leppard music) does it all sound the same to a hardrock fan (like all Def's music sounds the same to me)?

I really hope this EXPLAINS everything.
