It looks like we're done with the #1 hit discussion thread, therefore I'm going to try something else.

It's a choice between the two most famous hits by a certain artist, so I don't think it's going to work for artists like The Beatles and the Bee Gees.

Please send me a PM if you have any suggestions.

    The Results:

    Ottawan: D.I.S.C.O. vs. Hands Up
Falco: Rock Me Amadeus vs. Vienna Calling
Scandal: Goodbye To You vs. The Warrior (undecided)
George Baker Selection: Una Paloma Blanca vs. Little Green Bag
    Propaganda: p.Machinery vs. Duel
    Clout: Save Me vs. Substitute
Ken Lazslo: Tonight vs. Hey Hey Guy
The Shirts: Tell Me Your Plans vs. Laugh And Walk Away
Herman Brood & His Wild Romance: Saturday Night vs. Still Believe (undecided)
Jennifer Rush: The Power Of Love vs. Destiny
Robin S: Show Me Love vs. Luv 4 Luv
Billie Jo Spears: Blanket On The Ground vs. What I've Got In Mind
Peter Schilling: Major Tom (Coming Home) vs. The Different Story
D:Ream: U R The Best Thing vs. Things Can Only Get Better (undecided)
Ellen Foley: What's A Matter Baby vs. We Belong To The Night
Bellamy Brothers: Let Your Love Flow vs. If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me
Miquel Brown: So Many Men, So Little Time vs. Close To Perfection (undecided)
Lesley Gore: It's My Party vs. You Don't Own Me
Nick Kamen: Each Time You Break My Heart vs. I Promised Myself
Mike Oldfield Ft. Maggie Reilly: Moonlight Shadow vs. To France
Lucille Starr: The French Song vs. Colinda

Tatjana: Chica Cubana vs. Santa Maria

Chris Isaak: Wicked Game vs. Blue Hotel
France Gall: Poupée De Cire, Poupée De Son vs. Ella, Elle L'A
E.G. Daily: Say It, Say It vs. Love In The Shadows

Is this right Willie or am I supposed to vote on Ottawan too? in which case I would also choose "D.I.S.C.O"

Falco - ROCK ME AMADEUS v VIENNA CALLING

    I prefer ROCK ME AMADEUS

Yes, the idea is to vote for your favourite signature song and then we'll crown the winner and after that we move on to the next two-hits-wonder dilemma.
    And that's going to be:
It'll be interesting to see what's considered a signature song in different parts of the world. I gather "Jeanny (Part I)" is not a well-known Falco song in England?

    Love it! :gotcha:

This was a tough one. but I'm going to go with D.I.S.C.O. because it was here first.

Another difficult choice. I loved RMA when it was in the charts and then it became overplayed, so I always ended up liking VC more. Now that I've given them both a listen, I'm going to vote on Rock Me Amadeus.

It wasn't a hit over here, it only reached number 68 in our charts. I'm familiar with it because it featured on a compilation LP I had from back in the day.

It was my Ed Sheeran rant that killed it. But ... it also means 'Uptown Top Ranking' was the winner!!!

Okay, let's wrap up the first one.
D.I.S.C.O. is Ottawan's ultimate signature song. The votes were 100% unanimous.

I also vote for ROCK ME AMADEUS because Vienna Calling sounds too generic for a Falco song.

I'd go for Hands Up by Ottawan, though both hits are very evenly matched. The other one was used as a jingle in a tv ad campaign that used to stay in my head when I just didn't have the room for it.
''B-I-N-G-O'' for one of the the red tops (The Sun?), so that's another reason to vote against it.

As for Falco. I was all set to vote for Rock Me Amadeus. I once got good marks in German class where we had to design a new record sleeve for that single ! I'd never heard any of his/their other singles 'til just now. I prefer Vienna Calling.

75% of the votes goes to ROCK ME AMADEUS, now officially Falco's ultimate signature song.

    Let's continue with
I don't know what it sounds like, maybe Jimmy Todd could elaborate a little bit?:D

Scandal is an American 80's band whose lead singer is Patty Smyth. Goodbye to You is their hit from 1982. The Warrior is their second big hit from 1984, when the band was now called Scandal featuring Patty Smyth.

I'm behind the times digitally so I'm not good at uploading videos. I like to believe that my ability to sniff out champagne that's "burned" makes up for it. :)

It really isn't as difficult as it might appear.

Open YT and then time in the song you want to listen/use. Open that page and then copy the web address and paste it in the reply box on here. The forums will embed the video for you.

In this case, you would paste this code which I have split into two sections (putting a space between U & B) as an example of what the web address looks like

Patty Smyth has a great voice, and here's a little trivia: When David Lee Roth left Van Halen, they briefly considered her as his replacement on lead vocals. Obviously, they went with Sammy Hagar, and I doubt a band like Van Halen in the mid-80's would have a female singer, but it's interesting to ponder.

"Shooting down the walls of heartache. Bang! Bang!" is one of the cheesiest lyrics of all time but "Goodbye To You" has a video filmed in a friends basement on a $27.68 budget (including the pizza they ordered and a generous tip for the delivery guy). Decisions, decisions.

    Cheesey lyrics or cheesey pizza
The 80's had something for everyone:rolleyes:

Regarding the lyrics, this is early in the decade. Wait until Starships' "We Built This City." I think that song alone made a generation lactose intolerant!
