Many phobias are quite common - arachnophobia (spiders) being mine. Many are afraid of heights, flying, snakes, dogs etc.

But what about really odd phobias?

I've been doing a bit of research into trypophobia after watching American Horror Story. It literally is a fear of holes or patterns that look like holes. It's pretty freaky. Have you heard of any other strange ones?

I have recently become sidonglobophobic, which is the fear of cotton wool. I'm serious! :D

Since I was young I have had a weird thing about certain surfaces, dry surfaces in particular, specifically those wooden sticks that an ice pop or choc-ice was on. The thought of actually licking that stick would send shivers up my spine, still does. I will eat my way as close as I can without licking it and then throw it away.

Anyway, apparently most people who have sidonglobophobia have it since childhood, stemming from a traumatic experience involving cotton wool, but mine just came on a few years ago. I was in hospital for some time dealing with some major shit and somehow during it I developed this fear of cotton wool. For a while in the hospital I had to walk with a walking frame, and one day they didn't have mine and gave me another one to use, but the hand grips had cotton wool around them and I couldn't bring myself to touch it. It's just the feel of it or the thought of touching it that freaks me out, I'm not actually afraid of it or think it's wants to kill me or anything. That goes for cotton candy/candy floss too.

A phobia for phobias is the funniest.

I just have normal boring phobias. Insects & heights. And I'm scared of being alone outside in the dark, like normal people.

Buttons. I don't want to see them and I certainly don't want to touch them.
Same as Richard, it's more about an extreme dislike rather than fear.

That picture posted by Sarah would be enough to develop trypophobia! How disgusting!

I don't really have a fear of it, but I absolutely hate touching cotton wool. It feels absolutely gross in your hands and I just want to throw it away.

I have a very weird phobia of people touching or grabbing my ankles. I am deadly serious about this. The thought of it makes me feel sick, I panic, cant breathe etc. I don't know exactly where it stems from? I think it's just a weak point, literally my Achilles Heel.

I am also utterly petrified of Moths, absolutely hate and detest them. They strike utter fear in me.

I don't know where it comes from but it goes back to my earliest memories. I guess I was born with it.

It's not a phobia as such but I hate chewing gum. Like I shiver if anyone brings it out. I have a recurring dream that it gets stuck in my teeth and then I have to pull all my teeth out. My brother coincidentally has the same dream.

I also have a really bad issue with wet cigarettes. Like I would literally stand in dog poo before I'd go near one. I lie in the bath and am scared one will appear even though I live alone and no one would have a cigarette anywhere near my house.

Sar, you might be a bit of a Loony Tune but that doesn't matter to me.

Ya know dreaming about your teeth falling out is a very common dream. I have read that it's about our insecurities and feelings of inadequacy in an area of our life. It can be work related, social, sexual, whatever.

I didn't know that. I've had dreams about my face falling apart. Maybe I wanted to recast myself?

I used to have that dream when I was in High School. It was all about social anxiety, looking back.

I think so, Sar. Like I said before, we're like the Posh & Becks of soap forums.

You know it Mo. I'd go so far as to say we're akin to Jack and Vera Duckworth.
