Mark Valley is the first Jack I remember, but it's funny in hindsight--the only thing he has in common with Matt Ashford is that the characters had the same name. He was basically James Reilly's interpretation of Jack, and therefore completely different.

Speaking of more recent developments, with Y&R preempted for NCAA basketball last week, I attempted to watch some of Days, and was reminded of why I found it so easy to give up in early December. It was simply dreadful. :(

Has Morgan Fairchild joined the show? She tweeted this picture last night...

Interesting. That would be fun. I haven't heard anything about it so far.

It would be embarrassing to have MF on the show.....she is beyond D-List.

Also, what in the hell is Julie's damn obsession with Nick?! She's barely related to him. Ugh.

She has joined the show @Canon .

Fairchild is playing a recast Angelica Deveraux. I always liked that character. Fairchild doesn't really compare to Jane Elliot or Judith Chapman, but it's a fun character. I wonder if that means they are introducing Sonny's brother (and Angelica's son), Alexander?

I remember her as Jennifer on Search for Tomorrow...totally cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs. This was obviously before she became "famous for being famous" (and a bit of a parody of herself).

Haha, I forgot about her being in Friends. I liked her in that too.

That was awesome! Did Eunice survive!?!? Was John really helping Jennifer!?!?

Jennifer was nuts. She was hearing voices! And Eunice really did die, which was...rare for daytime soaps. I believe Jennifer eventually fixed it so John was blamed for the murder too! My mom still mentions a scene where Jennifer fell through a plate-glass window or a sliding door or something like that in slow motion--pretty grim for 1970s daytime TV. I guess my point in all this is that MF can bring it when asked, though I doubt they will turn her Anjelica into the centerpiece of the show the way they did when they created The City and cast her as the central character, Sydney Chase.

I have to admit some concern about these recent casting announcements. The budget is already stretched pretty thin. I can only assume that they're announcing casting coups like Sweeney, etc. to build up some excitement...and holding off until the last minute to announce all the cast cuts to finance all this. When AW was in its final years, the budget was such that when a new character was added, we knew one or two would leave in a sort of zero-sum game. They're not going to just magically find the money to hire Morgan Fairchild in Marlena's couch cushions.

Carlivanti's stuff starts airing this Wednesday (July 19th) - can't be worse than the show we're seeing to be honest.

Don't say that! I'm pretty sure they raid the actors coats for change these days to help fund the show.

Ron C loves his doppelgangers! They rank right up there with baby-switching plots in his go-to bag of tricks.

Well, he has double the dopplegangers now. Hattie is helping Anjelica with her plot by pretending to be Marlena and I'm assuming that Bonnie will be assisting Anjelica by pretending to be Adrienne. Plus with Kristin coming back soon, she could easily be playing two (or more) roles. Maybe Fake Rafe and Princess Gina are coming soon too. :re:

That's one way to cut costs, I guess. Fire people like Dario and now Joey and I'm sure a few more will be announced soon and then have your remaining cast each play two roles.

Knowing Ron C's sense of humor, he'd likely revive [Chris] Kositchek to impersonate Roman Brady. Hattie (as Marlena) and Chris (as Roman) would drive poor John Black crazy by pretending to have an affair, driving John into the arms of Kristen (impersonating Susan). I'm ready to 'ship "Cattie" already!

And since Hattie has a crush on Roman it would suit her to cozy up to fake Roman. You should be writing for Days.

Watching the first "Ron" episode and I'll say that Abby does seem to have more energy to her.

One of the tidbits I remember from his tenure at GH was the mixed reaction to his "directions" as part of the scripts. When the actors received their scripts, they would have many (some would say excessive) parenthetical notes to do things certain ways when saying their lines. Some of the more established actors (Tony Geary especially) resented Ron C essentially telling them how to play the lines/scenes, since he (and some others) felt it was their prerogative to deliver the lines the way they saw fit. The directors and producers were caught in the middle of this supposed struggle. Though the script writers technically write the day's script, Ron C would get his script writers to leave much of the directive bits and pieces in the finished script and expect them to show up in the finished product. Though Geary publicly complained about the practice, Ron supposedly kept doing it up to the day he was let go.

Whatever the case, if you see actors suddenly changing their energy level or behaving differently simply because of the new head writer, it could very well be these directives that he puts into the scripts.

I have to admit I'm enjoying them too. The two actresses are clearly having a lot of fun with the roles. I cringed when Mimi came up today, though. Just please don't let them be planning on bringing her back.

I found Bonnie's reference to Lisa (Rinna) on Real Housewives of Beverly Hill's looking familiar to her, amusing as well.
