It's been suggested that early DYNASTY was inspired in small part by the Daphne du Maurier novel, and the 1940 movie, REBECCA.

There's a creepy servant who doesn't accept the new, second wife, there's a mysteriously missing first wife, and there's even a "Gavin Maurier" later on. And at some point the second Mrs. de Winter actually winds up with one of the first Mrs. de Winter's handkerchiefs.

But I only realized recently that Laurence Olivier goes around saying "What the devil!" throughout the entire movie!

They should have played that aspect up just a little more in the first season. It would have better prepared the audience for Alexis' arrival.

But its because of this that I've imagined what it would have been like, had Dynasty been a 40s movie starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine and Vivien Leigh as Blake, Krystle and Alexis, respectively.

Dynasty was very Rebecca-ish in the first season, I'm surprised that Krystle doesn't really question the where abouts of the first Mrs Carrington more.

Its a reverse of Rebecca almost, as in it the book, the reader knows the Maxim's first wife's name was Rebecca, while we know nothing about the name of the second Mrs de Winter.
Season 1 of Dynasty we don't know the first name of "the first Mrs Carrington"
