ELITE is sizzling HOT! It's even hotter than Sense8

And then Christian and Polo, I was so happy when that happened:D
Anyway, thanks for the tip, Jason. It was another winner!

Btw, are you going to watch the Italian series BABY?
It's been a while since I've watched an Italian movie or series, so I wonder how much it differs from the Spanish productions.

I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. Apparently a second season is in the works.

It's on my list of considerations. If you end up watching it, let me know what you think.

This was nice and interesting. I've seen a few episodes of her sitcom but I didn't know very much about her, and I also didn't know anything about the backlash against her coming out.

I love Ellen. I think she is a pretty amazing person.

My current Netflix binge is this hilarious show:

A friend recommended this series from Amazon to me and I think I am going to start it this week:

It gets good ratings on IMDb. I desperately want to watch NuWill&Grace but it's not available here so maybe I could give this one a try.

Netflix has American Crime Story II now.[IMG]

I didn't like the first season of HOUSE OF CARDS (US) but suddenly I'm tempted to binge the f*** out of this show.

Also added to my list: GREENLEAF Season 3

Schitt's Creek is worth watching just for Catherine O'Hara's performance alone.

Last night I binged the mini-series The Forest
    upload_2018-12-26_0-17-43.png
I'm not sure why, the summary on Netflix informed me that this was about the search for a missing child and the town's dark secrets.
I could call it a "Broadchurch" knock-off although Broadchurch didn't invent this genre - either way it's becoming a very corny and tired concept.
And yet I couldn't stop watching it so they must have done something right.

Unlike the Spanish mini-series "Elite", The Forest has a beautiful European scenery and the isolated location gives it that un-slick and offbeat atmosphere that I really like.
It looks very old-fashioned, as if they're still living in the 1980s - and that reminds me of the days when European TV still marched to the beat of its own drum.
If you like that, then THE CHALET is definitely the better pick.

    But anyway, next is

Since the British Villains Thread was hijacked by the Irish Wannabe Villains, I decided to take a peek into the lives of Irish forum members Richard C and Alexis.
And like a gift from the gods, there was Derry Girls, a 90s period comedy.
At first I thought the soundtrack would be relevant i.e. giving me a sense of time, but it jumps from 1992 (Snow's "Informer") to 1996 (Gina G's "Ooh ah") and then back to 1990 (Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby").
Add to that Linda Clifford's "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and Madonna's "Holiday" (I guess they couldn't find another holiday song) and it just puts a damper on the show's retro aspect.

The characters are inherently funny but are often ruined by absurd and overkill characterization.
The show's biggest flaw is the contemporary sitcom humour, well I understand that it is a comedy series but it disconnects itself too much from the period drama angle.
If it wasn't for the political and religious references - mostly literal, in dialogue - this could have been Sidney Girls or Boston Girls. Or Girls Underried.

In the final scene they suddenly remembered what it was all about, but it felt a bit out of place and insincere rather than enhancing the tone of the show.
But it also made me realise what a fantastic show it could have been if they had bothered to show the real Derry Girls.

That said, I got a few laughs out of it - especially the boring Uncle Colm (of all characters!) - and the nasty Jenny Joyce is the girl you'll love to hate. She's very much like Nellie Oleson, actually.

I've now binged the first two seasons of Schitt's Creek. The season 2 finale was unexpectedly emotional - I even got a little teary eyed. It feels sort of like a turning point for the series in terms of balancing humor with some emotional depth. I'm curious to see if that is the case as I continue into season 3. The writers have done a good job creating characters who are over the top but still extremely likable; and from the little bit I've read online, as the series progresses more of the characters' layers are explored. The season 2 finale seemed to hint at that being the direction for the next season.

I have a feeling I will be done with all four seasons in just a few more days.

    Not available here I'm afraid.

I'm also intrigued by this trailer:

Watching episode 4 now - so far, so good.
It's based on a novel (haven't read it) but the series also feels a bit like a poem.
The characters are far from stereotypical, and the tone of show is strangely but pleasantly underplayed.
Penn Badgley is perfectly cast for the role of Joe. He manages to convince me that I'm watching a romantic story.

This was great, I didn't want it to end. I wonder if there's going to be a second season.

Recently made some progress with my Netflix list!

Saw Blade, Blade II, Battlefield Earth, and The Godfather Part II, all for the first time (it helped that all of these have been on my List forever and are expiring on January 01!).

I LOVED both Blades and The Godfather. BE was exactly the trash I'd heard it was, but I still watched it all and enjoyed it in a so-bad-I-can't-stop kinda way.

I should get around to Godfather Part III and Scarface, cos they're also expiring January 01!

It's been a long time since I've watched Scarface but I remember liking it very much.
I've only watched the first The Godfather movie and I didn't really see why this is considered a benchmark movie so I never bothered with part II and III.

Glad to hear Scarface is good. Looking forward to watching.

I think the Godfathers can be overly long and a little slow-paced, but huge part of their legendary status is how they're shot/the acting.

Yippee, the wicked BLACK MIRROR returns!
    upload_2018-12-30_1-33-28.png

But wait! WTF is this? An interactive movie? If I keep making the wrong choices it'll go on forever and ever. How utterly frustrating, but I HAVE to know how it ends.
You can choose not to choose and then the movie makes its own choice. But can I resist the opportunity to control the story? Is it a test? Has anyone actually finished the movie?
