    Heidi by Johanna Spyri

Another children's classic. I can't remember whether I ever saw the Shirley Temple movie - I probably did; there was time when there was a Shirley Temple movie on TV every afternoon - but I can easily imagine her in the role. It seems tailor made for her bright-eyed earnestness.

Just finished the brand new Famous Five book - "Five Go Undercover In A Brothel"

Big burly Julian uncovers a sleazy prostitution racket and, quite frankly, looks quite at home amongst the sordid depravity given his previous sexual history in the dorm at boarding school. The things that he and Smudger Jenkins got up to during the last midnight feast ....... Anyway, I won't spoil the ending for anyone but let's just say that Dick and Anne are introduced to their first sexual encounter and Timmy the dog isn't excluded from the fun by any means.

I'm half way through "The Secret Seven Have More Sandwiches And Ginger Beer Than They Can Cope With". It's pretty good so far. The first chapter opens with Scamper The Dog humping a chair in Uncle Quentin's study much to the disgust of Aunt Fanny. Anyway, Mr Goon makes a couple of arrests and Fatty disguises himself as Napoleon in the local waxworks hall. Some nasty men appear and cut Fatty's head off with a broadsword and the other members of the Secret Seven kind of lose their appetite for adventure at this point.

Just finished The Twins At Mallory Towers For Summer Term. It's a real cracker, especially if you like spoilt little rich kids who look down their nose at everyone who doesn't have money like mummy and daddy and who think that schooldays comprise of going for a midnight swim at boarding school and being captain of the lacrosse team. They will soon learn their lesson when they meet a few council estate boys.

Just finishing off "The Famous Five Suffer Physical Atrocities Inside A Turkish Prison". I won't say too much in case anyone is still reading it but Big Burly Julian is central to the action in the steamy and depraved slice of prison life. One of Enid Blyton's best efforts as far as I am concerned and the ending is something of a cliff hanger when Julian must choose between Anne's safety and his own sordid desires when a bound and gagged Aunt Fanny is ........ well, read it yourself if you want to know.

I'm just about to start "The Secret Seven Learn The Principles Of Self Flagellation".
