I can't remember exactly when Connie left Dallas but I think it was either in season 3 or 4. One minute she was Bobby's loyal secretary who secretly had the hots for him and the next minute she disappeared. Then out of the blue, Phyllis shows up as a temporary replacement for Connie who we are told was off sick. Whatever the illness was it lasted for 10 years as Connie never returned once Phyllis got her comfortable behind her desk.

Did Phyllis bump her off so she could get her job?

(Sorry, I omitted the question mark in the title of this thread and I can't change it now).

I think she got married and quit her job because her husband had gotten a job somewhere else. But I could be mixing her up with Louella. :lmao:

The earlier secretaries were never given as much screentime as Sly and Phyllis did. With the exception of Julie Grey of course!

This was something I should have mentioned on my season 13 like post- the 4 secretaries have their moments and adds to a different narrative.

A great example is the episode before Judgement Day (can't remember the name) in season 13-the 4 bicker slightly on life after Ewing Oil should they be found guilty of the tanker crash and they defend their bosses to the hilt

Connie was my favourite of the Ewing secretaries, and hands down the smartest in my opinion.

She didn't even have to say anything. She was a one-woman Greek chorus. I loved her gleefully incredulous looks, smiles and head shakes as she watched Kristin working JR.

Connie deserved her own spin-off where she quietly-but-efficiently solved mysteries and ate veggie burgers.

Transmitted by Louella undoubtedly...After JR was shot, the cleaning lady didn´t bother to clean the W.C.!

I liked Connie a lot. I can't remember all the details but there was one episode when Bobby took her out drinking during the period when he was having problems with Pam. Connie listened to his problems with "come to bed" eyes, thinking she has finally got the opportunity she always longed for, to get Bobby in her bed, only for Bobby to say he had to go home before he does something he will regret. You could almost hear her heart sink at that news.

I loved good ol´ Connie too, though I don´t think she really was in love with the Bobster. Maybe it was a fixation thing, but not à la Katherine...Maybe Connie had an Electra complex or some other psychobabble. I do believe that she liked Pam...Who knows, what if Connie actually liked Pam too much...? :danc:

It was a blast to see Connie rolling eyes every time she heard or saw Kristin doing something, or anything, really. It was an odd couple, Connie and Kristin...They interacted with each other in a very subtle way, something that couldn´t have happened in the "flashier" years. :tv1:

I thought Connie and Louella were more how secretaries should be, efficient but in the background. Phyllis and Sly felt they were more important than they actually were. I recall the episode when Sly tells JR she is leaving Ewing Oil and JR says to Phyllis "It's just you and me", to which she responds "I work for Bobby, hell will freeze over before I work for you". Just who did she think she was speaking to JR like that? I'm sure she was on the Ewing Oil payroll and not funded out of Bobby's personal funds so her loyalty should have been to the company and not to Bobby personally.

As much as I liked Sly and Phyllis, I agree with you. It got to the point where they were almost regular full-time characters with their little talk show routines, and it was just too much for me.

Poor Jackie. Her life was ruined from the day Pam offered her the Job From Hell, a.k.a Cliff's secretary. She should have stuck with The Store!

Connie really was sick. It was the Curse of Bobby Ewing, something that can have many different horrible effects on women who have the misfortune of falling for Bobby. (Going crazy, getting murdered in Paris, getting severely burned in a car accident and coming down with a deadly disease, etc.) In this case, the curse was almost immediately fatal. Poor Connie. May she rest in peace.

Phyllis first appears in season 4, in the episode called Making of a President. Her first scene is with J.R and her first words are "Connie is ill, I'm filling in for her, my name is Phyllis."

Connie mysteriously never returns from her illness and Phyllis completely takes over her role.
