Towards the end of their respective relationships?

    Richard or Chase?

You had Chase's cold indifference towards what Maggie went through and Richard using the children as weapons to keep a hold on Maggie.

Good questions. I think Richard "needed" Maggie more (albeit in a codependent way) while Chase seemed to largely take her for granted.

That said, I think Julia planning to stab her was much worse.

IMHO it was six of one and half a dozen of the other. It really would be like splitting hairs. Maggie was married to Chase the longest. However no one could condone how he behaved in season 6 towards her. The good woman which Maggie was needed support and he just turned his back on her, having the blinkers on with his own truth. Richard wooed her and got his yearning fulfilled only to slip back into his bad old ways, leaving the blonde lady with no other choice than to call time on their marriage.

Richard and Maggie have a showdown about his shady business dealings and all the deceit associated with the same. The crunch is that Maggie’s hand is forced and she does something we just never would have thought about, a few years ago, (a scene from season 8, 1988 – ’89):

Angela and her right hand man Chao-Li are enjoying their tea, in the Falcon Crest living room. The front door’s rather unusual bell chimes. As is nearly always the way Chao-Li goes to see who is there.

    Chao-Li: “Maggie!”

Maggie is standing on the porch with Kevin in her arms and Michael at her side.

    Maggie: “Is Angela here Chao-Li?”

    Chao-Li: “Yes.”

He takes her bags, as Maggie walks into the foyer.

    Maggie: “Thank you!”

Chao-Li is surprised by Maggie’s late night visit: “Mrs. Channing.”

Michael runs over to Angela in the living room and shouts, “Grandma!” He then greets her with a hug.

Angela: “Michael darling. Well for goodness sakes. Maggie is there something wrong?”

Maggie: “Angela I need your help. I’ve left Richard. Can we stay here for a while?”

Angela has Michael in her lap and is grinning from ear to ear: “Well of course you can. For as long as you like.”

Comparing Chase to Richard feels like comparing Blake Carrington to JR Ewing.
Both Chase and Blake thought they had the right to behave the way they did, while Richard and JR always knew they were wrong and then they did it anyway.
    I honestly don't know what's worse.
I didn't mention Alexis because she often gave mixed signals - I'm still not sure if she was very smart or not smart at all.

I used to believe it was Chase. Though in season 8 Richard was as much of a jerk towards Maggie as Chase was in season 6. After all he did to be in a relationship with her. So now I don't know.

In what you have described, I would say that Chase and Blake's actions would be worse. Since they both clearly felt their own "goodness" justified whatever nastiness that came across, that would make them deceived (at least in my eyes, anyways). Both seemed to never feel they had to take accountability for their bad actions either, and tried to make the lamest and weakest excuses for them.

While villains like JR and Richard Channing never even bothered to make an excuse.

Maybe it's easier to convert the righteous one?

Correct. Alexis was, for the most part, just a brazen hussy -- like a Kristen Shepard with a little more experience.

They didn't make excuses because they knew they were wrong, but just simply didn't care.

Chase and his self righteous attitude was so annoying it stank. Maggie could handle him though. She was a saint.

Richard generally showed Maggie a lot of warmth, love and attention whereas Chase took her for granted at best. Richard may have been a bit of a monster in business but he was a wonderful monster to Maggie.
