I'm sure this has been discussed over the years but is there a list of all the characters that were in the Ewing's Southfork pool during the 1978-1991 series? Either in a pool fight or just relaxing/exercise. From memory I have- JR, Bobby, Pam, Lucy, Ray, Clayton, Kristin Shepard, Cliff Barnes, Sue Ellen, John Ross, Christopher, Peter Richards, "Guzzler "Bennett, Marilee Stone, Michelle Stevens, and James Beaumont. I can't remember if Jamie, Jenna Wade, Mickey Trotter, Mark Graison or April Stevens are in the Southfork pool. I never remember Miss Ellie or Jock in the pool. Who have I forgotten?
While we are adding to the list of people who were in the pool, may I add my favorite people in the pool story? J.R. is being especially mean to Donna. She notices that they are standing at the edge of the pool, and even though J.R. is in his full suit and tie and wearing an expensive Stetson, Donna pushes him backwards into the pool. Now, we are expecting to hear a string of profanity from J.R. Or at the very least, a shouted threat. But no. . . He just laughs and while he is treading water, his hat floating behind him, JR hollers "Don't go away mad, Darlin!" That magnificent bastard!
Oh, how I wish more of oldDALLAS was filmed in Texas during the winter just as the 1978 miniseries and nuDALLAS was. It's so atmospheric.
That scene with Donna, and J.R.’s reaction, was brilliant. Hagman - what an actor! Are we talking about the real Southfork pool only? Or does the fake Southfork pool in the studio count?
The California set was canon so both. I think there was a JR/Bobby fight in the later years in that pool as well as where James tossed Michelle in. Budget cuts. Thank you! I forgot about Mitch.
A few of Lucy's nameless friends were in there a couple of times, but unfortunately for the viewers, we never got to see Muriel Gillis in that setting. Jim Davis's wife was (I believe) a professional swimmer, his MGM screen test with with Esther Williams, and he had a pool in his backyard (credit to the fantastic http://www.jimdavis.de/), so I wouldn't be surprised if Jock could have gotten in there to teach those young kids a lesson every now and then.
I agree. Sometimes using winter adds another element, with Dallas more so. Rewinding to 1978 and seeing all that snow just added to the coldness of the Ewing family. I'm sure when the producers booked everything required to film their mini-series they didn't bank on a snow storm however it just works. On the downside I'm sure we wouldn't have seen the parade of dazzling women in their swimming attire lazing by the pools especially Pam and her magnificent buoys.
from the main titles cast Miss Ellie and Jock were never in the pool and I dont ever remember Donna in it either I dont think Mark was in the SF pool but he was at Pam's home Most boys i knew watched Dallas for one reason! Pam in her swimming costume!
Jenna was in the pool in a scene with Bobby. It was a playful scene where he splashed her with water or something like that. I think Jamie was in the pool too in a scene with Sue Ellen. Also Gary and Bobby swam in the pool in a scene where Gary was visiting Southfork.
Gary #1 was too busy poring over the books of a failing company with a glass of milk too precariously close by to make it in for a swim!
I don't know if it's an old myth, but didn't Victoria Principal later put a contractual limit on the number of swimming pool scenes that she would do?
I remember Charlie being in the pool, together with John Ross and Christopher. I think Ray and some others were there too. Not sure if Jack was ever in the Southfork pool. He was at SOME pool, though, that time that April visited him.
Jack was in the pool in the dream season. Flipped off his float. On a side note I wish Clayton Farlow would have jumped his old ass in there.
