The next 2 matches in the second round of the contest are as follows:

    [IMG] [IMG]

The poll is now open for you to choose which soaps you would like to win each of the two matches to go through to the next round. You may vote for a winner of one match or for both matches.

Stating the reasons for your choices is encouraged as this makes the contest more interesting and may help others in their decisions. However, this is entirely optional and you can just state your chosen winner of each match if you prefer.

The poll will close at midday on Tuesday 5th November 2019.

Match 5 is easy for me, I've spent many, many years on the cobbles, where I often drift in and out of the village, so it's Coronation Street

Match 6 is a real toughy. I've seen both for the first and only time this past decade and I've enjoyed so much about both. My first thought was to go with Falcon Crest because that's fresher in my mind seeing how I did it after Dynasty, however with Dynasty, I loved the glamour, the ridiculous side of it all, but mostly the OTT stories and acting, so with that in mind I'm going for Dynasty

    1. Emmerdale.

    2. Tough one. When I was little they broadcast Dallas and Falcon Crest here in Sweden. Dynasty was only broadcast briefly before they dropped it in favor of Dallas. So I started watching Dallas first, then Falcon Crest. Then in the 1990s I watched all of Dynasty in the reruns as well as the other two shows. I have rewatched Dynasty once since then. I only made it halfway through my rewatch of Falcon Crest. I have also met Joan Collins once and she was really nice. So my vote goes to Dynasty.

Match 5: Coronation Street, because I like to keep the UK soap giant in the game and see how it fares in the matches against the other super favourites.

Match 6: It's funny that most people compare Dynasty to Dallas while in fact it has much more in common with Falcon Crest. It's a very long list and you can find it in one of the soap forums so I won't repost it her.
I love Falcon Crest, I think it was the only soap that could have it all. But that's not what happened.
Whenever I felt disappointed by Dynasty it was because of unfulfilled potential, even more so because it was so obviously there. But I never found it unwatchable.
The worst of Falcon Crest is unwatchable, especially its sitcom approach which, imo, is the worst thing you can do to a soap.
The first 3 seasons of D and FC are equally entertaining, but Dynasty's season 1 was definitely the better one. And Dynasty's last season was also better than Falcon Crest's last season.
Falcon Crest trumped Dynasty in several areas (like, the area - haha) and all these topics have been tackled in the SoapLand battles.
But for me, Dynasty simply is the better soap.

    Match 5
I've never really got into Coronation Street even though I have tried on many occasions. When I last watched it a few years ago it seemed a bit like aging giant living on past glories recycling old stories in a desperate attempt to remain popular. Just how many time do they have to have a serial killer storyline, for example? And don't get me started on Fiz! Emmerdale on the other hand continually tried to innovate and remain fresh. An episode told from the point of view of a dementia sufferer, different episodes telling the story of a particular event each from the viewpoint of a different character, an episode only featuring women on International Women's Day and a flashback episode telling the backstory of a major character are just a few examples of how Emmerdale has attempted to innovate. Easy choice for me, Emmerdale wins.

    Match 6
When I first watched Dynasty in the 1980s I thought it was an entertaining show but very quickly it became ridiculous. More over the top than a circus and full of very dodgy acting. Why did Emma Samms and Linda Evans think always speaking in a whisper was a convincing way to act? When the show started Blake had 2 children and by the end I lost count of how many he had and how many different actors played them. Watching Dynasty was a bit like eating a very indulgent chocolate pudding; you enjoy at first but very quickly it becomes a bit sickly. Falcon Crest was packed with great and very believable characters, wonderful storylines, brilliant twists and great performances. It's still very watchable today and doesn't seem like it only belongs in the 1980s, a bit like a good wine, it still keeps its taste after many years. Another easy choice for me, Falcon Crest wins.

here are the results of the BF jury!

Round 5 - Corrie - for the 70s - 2000s - great stories, cast, northern humour, wit, drama and pathos and actors who could act and characters you could care about

Round 6 - never watched either but since Joan C was in one and I cant abide her and would rather scratch my eyes out and Jane Wyman was in the other and was one of my mums favs then Falcon Crest wins hands down for me

OK, my typing was almost as shocking as the standard of acting in Dynasty. I don't know who Emma Sands is but I don't think she would believe delivering lines in a whisper covers up that someone's acting is wooden.

U got the VERONICA tv guide in New Zealand?;)
During the first 2 or 3 years this particular tv guide had a printed version of the episodes (or maybe all seasons? I don't remember exactly)

Lol Willie well what can I say? Northern hemisphere non English TV guides were a huge seller here ;-) haha. The actual NZ TV Guides were tiny and thin with two television channels, and back then often completely black and white. Dutch Veronica were far more enjoyable haha.
PS Barbara fan you’d love the NZ TV Guides especially as Joan Collins was the most popular cover girl by far on this mag ;-)
