DALLAS, of course!!!!!
The soap opera to end all soap operas. The most iconic soap of all times.
It's gonna have to be DALLAS, but I'd be happy with either as a winner.
A secret ballot won't be necessary. I don't think my vote would be a surprise to anyone.
Katherine Wentworth is correct, it's not over because there have been some votes by secret ballot which could change the outcome of the final match.
Vote for the show you would like to win the World Cup of Soap Operas by midday on Tuesday. The contest is between Dallas and Peyton Place.
Dallas gets my vote. Not only is it my favorite show ever. But it really deserves to be the number one show because how many shows stays relevant 40 years after they first came on the air?
I also love how Dallas came back in 2012 and actually gave us a chance to see what became of a new generation of Ewings. The show was perfectly cast IMHO.
You could argue that Peyton Place is still relevant after over 50 years.
Please do argue for that then. Since I have never watched that show and I am curious about it. So I might be persuaded to watch it some day. But I will be honest if it wins over Dallas tomorrow due to the secret ballots I will feel like when Hillary Clinton lost the election due to suspected Russian interference with the votes!
I shouldn't worry. I have a feeling Dallas will be the Boris Johnson of soap. Perhaps for similar reasons.
The poll has now closed and the World Cup of Soap Operas has reached it's conclusion.
I can now reveal 2 votes were received by secret ballot as follows:
From @Mel O'Kalikimaka:
"I'll cast my vote for Peyton Place, please."
From @Santa Englishboy:
"My vote goes to the legendary tv series that is DALLAS."
My thanks go to @Mel O'Kalikimaka and @Santa Englishboy for adding some suspense to the final result.
All votes have now been counted and verified and a letter has been send to Falcon Crest with the results...
So to confirm the final result:
Peyton Place: 4
Commiserations to Peyton Place but for a show that ended over half a century ago, and probably before many of the people who voted were born, being runner up is still an achievement.
I declare Dallas to be the winner of the World Cup of Soap Operas. Congratulations Dallas!
And that concludes the World Cup of Soap Operas. Thanks to all Soapchatters who took part in the votes and discussions. I particularly enjoyed reading all your reasons why you were supporting a particular soap opera which made me see several shows in a different light and brought some soaps to my attention that I wasn't aware of previously, some of which I intend to watch in 2020.
Back in Dallas, JR celebrates the news:
yee haa!! I never had any doubt that the greatest soap opera of all time would win
Thank you @Angela's Mulled Wine for a great contest and I will raise a glass of mulled wine to you!
Well done, DALLAS!
And as for Falcon Crest not being the winner, here in Holland we say:
"Goede wijn behoeft geen krans" (but I have no idea how to translate it)
Thank you @Angela’s Mulled Wine for you all your time, energy and work into make this such fun over the past months. Incredible. Totally second what @Barbara Belle Of The Ball said. You’re amazing. Cheers and chin chin to you as well as Dallas
I had a go on Google Translate and their translation has a very nice ring to it:

I share these sentiments. It's been a fun contest thanks in large part to your dedication, @Angela's Mulled Wine. I look forward to news of your new discoveries in the new year. And perhaps even another World Cup one of these days.
But in the meantime, put your feet up and relax.
Well, there are no sour grapes from me especially as I think Soapchatters chose 2 worthy finalists and a deserving winner.
Thank you all, it's been fun but I can't take all the credit because it's those that participate in the contest that make it work. Reading the diverse reasons why people voted for one soap over another has been fascinating and discovering new soap operas that I didn't know existed has been what has made the game both interesting and enjoyable for me.
The World Cup will return in 2020 but I've not yet decided what the theme will be next time.
The group of friends that are usually so exuberant when match winners are announced are a bit more subdued tonight. They clearly wanted Peyton Place to win.
They clearly wanted to watch Peyton Place.
I think I need to watch Peyton Place some day. But it's a lot of episodes. It's mindboggling that they did over 500 episodes in about five years. Dallas only had 356 in 13 years.
Anyway naturally I am happy that Dallas won!
Thanks for all the work you put into this @Angela's Mulled Wine
If I'm not mistaken it was on twice a week - like Batman.
