Who would say are the worst characters the show had to offer? Why are they the worst?
There’s a slew of characters from Season 11 onwards that would be worthy contenders. However, I’ll give a vote for Leslie Stewart. The 80-81 season was sluggish at best (at the very moment when the show went super nova in terms of popularity) and this character was particularly poorly utilised.
Charlie wade and her third mother were right up there. So Whiney and dull. The fast forward button comes out often when watching the DVD with their scenes
Totally agree with Leslie octopus Stewart and I have never watched her scenes again since the first time I watched the series
Alex ward seemed quite creepy to me (as did king Galen of Moldavia surprisingly enough)
And then yes most of the new characters from 87-88 season onwards lol
Other than that. I think most of the characters and cast were great! :0)
Charlie Wade, Clint Ogden, Casey Denault -- the casting. LeeAnne de la Lucci -- the show's just trying to fake it at this point.
The whole harem of post-Pam Bobby (incl. Hyenna Wade!). Enough said.
I think my least favorite character was probably Mark Graison. I never liked him. Probably because he was introduced as being an old pals of Bobby's and then he went after Bobby's wife. That's a big no-no in my book. Heck I wouldn't even want to date my friends' ex's.
I agree that Leslie Stewart was not the greatest character.
I was also really annoyed by Laurel Ellis and Clayton's obsession with her.
Clint Odgen was probably one of the dullest of Sue Ellen's love interests.
Then we of course have the McKay's. I was not that fond of Tommy or Carter or Rose. I liked Tracey for some reason. But yeah I think Rose probably wins the least likable prize out of those characters!
The Ewing cousins were okay but Jack and Jamie were not my favorite characters either and I don't think they added all that much to the show.
100% agree with you, Charley and Prissy Presley's version of Jenna Wade were the worst Dallas characters. Just ghastly,I hated them with a passion. Also on my hate list:
Laurel Ellis - argh, just awful, wooden and annoying
Matt Cantrell - annoying and forever gurning into the camera
Just one comment about Mark Graison: it was never stated that he was a friend of Bobby´s. They had met before, as acquaintances, that´s all. I even think that Bobby didn´t think much of Mark before he met Pam. If she had dated that sleazy Taylor Bennett (who looked old enough to be his teacher) then it would´ve been different. Besides J.R. manipulated Mark into believing Pam´s marriage was almost ended. What could a man like Mark (rich and handsome but surrounded by slutty women as we could see) do when he met a woman he´d love to make his wife...? And he waited a whole YEAR before Pam agreed to sleep with him. I call that being a saint. Oh and where can I find a man like him by the way...?
As for hating fictional characters because they do things one would never do, I´d say that I couldn´t watch half of the current TV shows then (especially "Game of Thrones"!). Soap characters are not meant to be a moral lesson but just fun. Sometimes I can´t believe how differently we fans can see our show´s characters. Or how we pick up only the things of them we want to see, and oversee all those that may be their true colors...
Hi @Angela Channing I’ve not heard ‘gurning’ before? What is that? I wasn’t a Matt fan either lol
I recall hearing some people raving about Leslie Stewart some years back before I ever watched any of her episodes. To put it simply, I was disappointed. Season 4 as a whole was drab, and Leslie's addition certainly didn't help. I don't know what made her so displeasing to me, but I just remember she was.
There is one reason I like Mark Graison. It brings back memories of when his character was introduced. Bobby was gone, and Pam finds this handsome, rich, successful business owner (Graison Industries). I remember my European friends asking me, "Are ALL American men rich and handsome?"
Well, maybe in Dallas.
If haven't watched the latter seasons yet, but wasn't it Leanne de la Vega? If you're referencing Barbara Eden's character that is.
It's pulling awkward faces. I was referring to Marc Singer's attempt at acting which comprised of constantly grinning broadly, even at inappropriate moments, or screwing his face up to indicate he was angry.
Pam: Matt, Bobby died
Bogota Official: Mr Cantrell, your emerald mine was destroyed by the earthquake
Bogata Official: Mrs Ewing has been kidnapped
Bogata Official: Why are you still smiling, her life is in danger?
That reminds me of 2 other ghastly characters to add to my hate list:
Just awful characters beyond belief.
Both of the characters I found tedious were Ewings. Guess who
I won’t count anyone introduced after 1987, because they were ALL annoying.
I found Lucy awful, because the actress was so limited (and the character represented such a missed opportunity).
Jamie Ewing was another missed opportunity.
Agreed on Leslie Stewart. Susan Flannery was such a beautiful woman back then - who told her that hairstyle was flattering?
Clint Ogden was awful, but I never could stand Monte Markham and how always he spoke out of one side of his mouth.
Eddie from the Hot Biscuit storyline was a cliche.
I couldn’t stand Mark and his world of pornstaches, polo ponies, and pimpmobiles.
Jenna #02 and #03, Clayton, Charlie, Miss Ellie #02, Leslie, Mark, Jack, etc. Since they never existed, no one in the "Dream Season" counts. Tuned out after VP left the show, so I can't comment on those seasons.
Granny Beaumont and her clan.
Angelica Nero and her Eurovision Song Contest troupe.
Mark Graison's moustache.
1. Jamie Ewing. The casting director was out of the office when Jenilee slipped by.
2. Lucy Ewing. Again wrong casting. They should have looked for an established daytime actress. Charlene's lack of acting chops could be seen from space.
3. Charlie Wade. Again casting.
4. James Beaumont. By now the casting director had fled town.
5. Cally Harper. I mean...seriously?
6. Mandy Winger. The audacity of the woman to believe she could dethrone Sue Ellen.
7. The McKay family.
8, 9 & 10.......Anything post Donna and Pam leaving. Just awful characters all round.
Separate names with a comma.
